My Performance Center Shorty 40 is pleasant to carry,conceals well,holds an even dozen and is enough to hold onto for me to be plenty proficient with it.Yep,you can have your cake and eat it too.
 
And, the folks that really think they can really get (or truly have) the best of both in that tiny gun they shoot as well as a full size in speed/action shooting

I ran a defensive carbine/pistol match the other day. I used my daily carry G26 with flush 10 round magazine for the primary and +0 pinky extension for the reload. The most common pistol among others was a Glock 34. Nobody else had anything smaller than a Glock 19. I had never done anything like this match before, and wasn't trying to compete. I finished 5 out of 21.

Glock 26...I'm more than happy with that "best of both" compromise.
