I know, "Post a picture" but that is not a option at the moment.
I recently aquired a tiger stripped M98 stock for what appears to be for something like the Brazilian M1908. However, it lacks a sling hook on the front band and has a bayonet adaptor like on the M98 Spanish Cortuna guns.
It does have a pistol grip rather than a shotgun /musket stock just as the M1908 has a pistol grip and the rear sling swivil is just behind the pistol grip and the slig atacjment points are all on the bottom again like the M1908.
The bands and springs are blued and the cap with the bayonet lug on it under the front band is bright steel. THe original bayonet lug seems the same length as the M1908s and the bright steel adaptor is appearently pinned on with a roll pin and a bit longer than the original lug.
Whatzit?
WHat should I do to clean the stock and refinish it?
Will using an scortching hot iron on a wet shop cloth over the stock cause there to be problems in either the stripping of the stock, refishing or require sanding to reduce swelling of the woood from the steam?
