NOTE: I separated the combined Group Buys so it will be less confusing. Rules are still the same, send the bladesmith money and he'll send you a piece of artistically crafted, but eminently usable, handmade knife
***

I'll organized another group buy.

I'll set up with Kim and Gary to offer some knives that ya'll can order directly from them since I'm so busy these days (just got off the plane from San Antonio and fly back out Wed. for Va. Beach and then Sun. for San Diego, Santa Barbara, Oakland with Kuwait looming in ... June:banghead:)

John already has a tested pattern from Kim and Gary has a couple that I've tested so we already know the knives we'll want to offer and how good they are. Gary is going for his ABS Master Smith so don't expect anything until after Blade Show. We'll want to get orders and MONEY in to him before BLADE or you'll be paying MasterSmith prices. Kim has a brilliant little necker that John is carrying in Afghanistan so that would be in the offering.

LOL OK I'm here now, I had better get the lead out or miss this bus. I sure hope HSO is not closing the doors just yet. I will post pic's of the 2 styles I'm going to be making, a 4-4 1/4" clip point or 3 1/2 drop point hunter. Forged 5160 High Carbon steel, differentialy tempered showing nice clear temper lines with a soft back draw for added flexibility/strength. Both knives will have a white bronze single guard and mortized tag construced Canvas or Linen Micarta handle in Green or Black with 5 NS pins and a thong hole.

The sheath will be a Leather snap or pouch sheath wet fitted to each individual knife or Kim will make up a simple clean Zydex sheath that loops onto the belt and tucks into the waste band real nice

These are my normal forged J.S. knives, with all the fit and work in the forging and tempering. In a field grade mode hand sanded finished to 220 grit and bead blasted. Saves me so much time I can offer tha same knife at about half the cost. As on one of my normal hand sanded finished blades when doing a group by deal. $225 with Kydex and $250 with a leather

LOL that is not so bad a thing I think I stay confused all the time, with Friends like KIm and HSO:banghead:

I am going to start up a new thread on my 2 blades and not get anyone else confused...

nice pair!

hso, been wanting to force a patina, now I get my chance!

So are there 2 group buys now? I'm confused!

Nothing new there. ;)

The original idea is that Kim would offer 2 knives and Gary would offer 2 for a large Group Buy opportunity for THR members. That way we cover a price range from $25 to $250 and style from minimalist necker to full mortise tang clip or drop point micarta grip with guards.

Kim's offering a small and a medium 1095 tool steel necker as seen inn his thread with kydex neck sheath for $25 for the small and $50 for the medium.

Gary is offering a 5160 steel clip or drop point knife with micarta thong hole grip and white bronze guard with a kydex or leather sheath for $200 in kydex or $250 for hand made leather sheath.

So, there it is. A huge opportunity for members to pick from 4 different knives in two running Group Buys (or buy all 4) from a couple of respected knife makers that others here have bought from here before and have endorsed their work.

You cann't go wrong with any knife from these Yahoos. SInce the first group buy on Gary's knives stalled I got two clip points. One in 5160 and one in damascus. Kim is working on a couple of folders for me. I already have a couple of the neckers.

Anyone interested in good knives at a very good deal needs to get off the pot and email them.

Cheers,

ts

I am going to make up a new batch of knives in the same style, both with yellow spacers and thong holes in the next 3-4 days so everyone see's the final knife type they will be getting with the sheaths. The forge will be firing up and I will have Kim take a few pictures of the knives in the fire and on the bench as I make them.

Gary,

Did I hear that the drop point handle will have a little less "drop" than the one in the pic?

John

Yes John the drop point just did not feel right with that amount of drop to the handle. The one I am making now will have a little less, so the point lines up better

Hi Gary, welcome to THR!

I'm liking that drop point, and I know that your final will be different from the pics, but can you take a picture of both knives next to a ruler or dollar bill? I'm sure that it will help people get an idea of the sizes. Thanks!

Hey CWL

I sure will

Thanks, Gary. When I saw it, I said, looks great...'cept the handle has too much drop. :D

Since I already bought a bunch of brother Kim's little neckers- all my team has them, plus my girlfriend- I reckon I'd better pick up one of your drop points. I love green micarta. :)

John

I will be watching him sweat as he forges, while I surface grind folder parts and sip sweet tea. Life is soooo good. Pictures will be posted friday night.

Ohhhhhh, sweaty Gary pics

Dang, is it as hot in Clarksville as it is here in Va. Beach (83). That will make forging miserable!

Gary,

You say that like it is a bad thing.:scrutiny:

Send pics or folks will think you're buying blade blanks from SMKW and having some homeless guy put them together using JB Weld.

:neener:

So that isn't how it's normally done? ;)

If you want any of the knives shown made by Gary or Kim just PM them. They're busy making knives so you may not get an acknowledgement for a day or so, but they'll get back to you.

:neener: Oh HSO now you know that last jab of the pointy stick was just jelousey showing, SMKW my oh heck my secret is out at last. I feel so liberated...:what: You know what that is going to cost you at Blade????

I got on the forge yesterday and got some work done, I think Kim has a few pictures. I was sweatin just a wee bit as Kim got a forearm work out on the surface grinder. I even managed to miss one of Miss Bettey's pests at 20' with kims Suppressor, I swear it hit like 3"to the left. Kim really needs to get glasses...

The gun shoots fine for me. actually the alignment notch was off making gun shoot to the left.

Gary workin

hot forging going on.

cost you at Blade????

Yeah, I know'd I shot myself in the foot with my big mouth when I typed it with my little fingers:scrutiny:.

Hardly matters, you'll have all my money before I go anyway (and they're talking about Kuwait again:( and they always want to send me during Blade for some reason).
