Since SCOTUS declined to hear Kalchasky v. Cacace today I am wondering when the next chance to hear a gun case is. I know that they were deciding today on what cases to rule on this fall.

So do they only decide to hear and then rule on cases once a year? Or is it more often?

Now would be a great time to hear the case with the current make up of the court and the case was strong. If they choose a gun case later with a worse court make up and a weaker case, we could be in trouble.

With Ginsberg basically saying a later, wiser court could overturn Heller, that's scary.

I know this selection process is for cases to be heard in the fall. I don't know when they select cases for spring (these include up to a June 30 ruling). I don't know if they can or ever do select cases otherwise.

So they won't decide on taking anymore cases until this time next year? So they only rule on cases once a year?

We couldn't have a potential 2nd Amendment case until 2014?

If a critical case arises they can reach down to a lower court and simply take the case. It's called Writ of Certiorari.

Any time they want.

SCOTUS picks and chooses at their personal whim.

AFS is correct.
