When do you put on a sidearm?

Never? Always? Only when you think you might need it?

These are kinda broad categories, so just try to pick whatever you feel is closest.

All the time and everywhere I can legally. Have it on me at home right now and only took it off today because I had to go into the post office. Pocket carry makes it too easy not to have a gun around.

Well, you need another option called "when I'm legally able". Because of my daily routine - there are some days that I'm simply not able to carry. It's usually because of some goofy thing in the concealed carry law - but I refuse to carry unless I'm legal.

So, my answer is:

"When I'm legally able."

I don't carry around the house much. My house only has one exterior door and its heavy enough that I'd have enough warning to get to a gun.

I never leave the house unarmed.

Any time I'm legally allowed.

As I'm still waiting for my CHL to finish processing, this is restricted currently to inside my house and car. I'm using this time to learn about holsters and concealment and how to dress for carrying, get used to the feel of the weapon while carrying, practice drawing and re-holstering the weapon, etc.

So you don't have any windows? I see you're in Ocala. When we lived in central Florida, we had our windows open a lot and a screen isn't much protection. Do you have a garage and, if so, what if you accidentally left it open? You have another external access point. Also, what kind of a house in Florida doesn't have at least one sliding glass door???

While I can't say " When I put my pants on". Some days I never leave the house and I am working in the wood shop, no need. But it is generally carry 95% when I leave the house or it is in the car. My car has a between the seat holster that my gun can ride in. My wife works in a no carry zone and all that ramification.

For those who said "when I'm going somewhere I think I might need it" - how are you to know when you might need it? It's best to not go to places where you think you might need it, and evil people you may need to defend yourself or your family from can go almost anywhere you can, even gasp - your very own neighborhood or favorite grocery store!

I try to have it with me whenever I leave the house. I don't ever have it on me in the house, and I sleep with it right next to my head...
