The pic kinda says it all don't it. The group on the right was well on it's way to becoming something really special when it happened......the attack of the dreaded flier :cuss: and wouldn't ya know it the same thing happened on the second group I tried for (right)

Don't ya hate when that happens

Please take this thread as an opportunity to post any similar stories or groups where the same thing happened to you

Why?

Thats the question I thought of when I saw your post. My drill is barking in the back of my head "you jerked the trigger" but that is a problem of mine.

I see written on there 110 a-max 300m? Surely those aren't 300m groups or is that 300w as in whisper. :p

Oh, well in that case, congratulations from someone with out such tight groups, now please quit complaining, you might have just got a little lighter charge on that one or wind gust.

I don't think anyone would complain if they had a "running group" target going. 3 or 5 shots is good to verify your zero or the rifle's potential; but keep shooting the same target with the same load or ammo, and then you'll get the rest of the story.

Most often they open up a bit, ask me how I know.

I've had a couple where I get that flier. Most of the time it's me too and I know when I've ruined the group. I'll try to dig up the pictures momentarily.

To many factors could cause fliers like this, if you handload, you brass might just became harder, or the temperature outside is not the same as it was, also barometric pressure has a big effect and the wind of course, if you shoot 300 yards you need to setup flags say 50 yards apart, I’ve seen this happen many times, on day I would get 0.7” groups at 300 yards week later group is like 2.5” same load same riffle, just temperature changed and the pressure went from 29.5” to 30.20” I think when pressure goes up it can be compensated by adding 1 – 2 more grains of powder to the load but if it’s going down load can be reduced accordingly.

This was only at 50 yards, shot prone from cross sticks, but that flyer really opened up the group. 4 shots into one hole, then a #$%@! flyer.
