From what i understand the US military is not buying M1A receivers or rifles, They are Taking the warehouses full of rack grade weapons and sending them out to Smith Enterprises and they are turning them into their "Crazy Horse" rifles. New barrels, stocks, etc.

edit: this sounds like the rifles are being sold out to the civilian sector. not the case, crazy horse is just being contracted out to rework them for use in the field.

Z-Michagain......your quote, "3) I'm not aware that any M14s are actually being made for and sold to the US military right now. "

YES, THERE ARE NEW M14s BEING MADE FOR THE MILITARY. THE COMPANY, SMITH ENTERPRISES, MAKE MIL SPEC M14 PARTS AND THEIR OWN FORGED RECEIVER. THE MILITARY SENDS THEM OLD M14s TO BE CONVERTED INTO NEW CRAZY HORSE M21 RIFLES. SOMETIMES THE MILITARY BUYS THEM OUTRIGHT WITH THE NEW RECEIVER AND ALL. IF YOU EVER SEE A MILITARY PHOTO OF AN M14 WITH A VORTEX FLASH HIDER, CHANCES ARE IT'S A BRAN NEW S.E. CRAZY HORSE.

tech....well if you don't believe me, just call smith enterprises...or research it for yourself. they are supplying the war with their M...or sorry m14s.

...or simply disregard it as hearsay.

Whatever. That's probably the best advice when dealing with info on the internet. Heaven forbid someone ask where information comes from.

Let's just say that Smith Enterprises thinks VERY highly of themselves.

And yes, I know they get some military work. But I have not seen any proof that they're making new M14s that are being issued by the military. Not saying it couldn't be, just wondering on a source to verify.

SEI makes every M14 part to military spec...unlike most M14 clone companies. they also make a hammer forged military spec receiver.....however, the only difference in their receiver and the old original M14 receiver is that it is not made for select fire. these rifles are used as M21s or DMR rifles which do not require select fire anyway (when has an M14 ever though). usually what the military will do it send SEI their beat-up M14s and SEI will upgrade whatever part needs upgrading. or the military will buy the SEI M14 complete as is. bottom line is, the military does not just shoot 50yr old beat up M14s used in NAM. SEI is contracted my the military to supply new military spec M14 rifles.

I looked for two months before I found mine. I had to drive 50 miles to pick it up. I would just buy one off gunbroker. I paid over $100 in taxes. Makes me think I could have picked one up for the same price online and had it shipped to an FFL all for less.
