I was kind of considering one but looks like they are still too expensive due to quantity. I thought by now Keltec would have these out in good numbers?

I have had feelers out to 6 distributors for over a year. The only one that I have seen was at a gunshow and it sold for $450. Pretty good markup on a gun that is supposed to wholesale for under $300.

At this point you are alpha testing the PMR, RFB and KSG. If they made more they couldn't fix 'em fast enough to keep their good customer service reputation intact. OTOH, if they didn't have to spend so much time fixing products released before they were really ready, they could make more.

Dealers love the 100%+ markup these things seem to bring at the larger gun shows around here.

Don't know if this is true, but the other day I was talking to a small gun shop owner, and Kel-Tec came up in the conversation. He said; (again this is what he told me) Kel-Tec is first a CNC machine shop that makes guns on the side, when business is slow. That is if they get a big contract to make (insert whatever) for say the govenement for example, all of the workforce is busy on that, and the firearms part of the company is put on hold. I myself, find this hard to believe but this could explain Kel-Tecs inability to produce anything in quanity. LM

Well, a good number of them are probably back at Kel-Tec getting repaired. A LGS has has sent 2 of the last 3 sold back to Kel-Tec with problems. One of those came back from Kel-Tec with parts missing...?????

I could not agree more. Kel-Tec comes up with some "cool" things. Then it seems they do not do their due diligence for QC.

A "relatively" small shop with innovative ideas, that appears to "rush to market". Then later has to pay the price for apparant lack of quality control and (due to an overload of customer complaints), can not resolve problems in a timely manner.

I could be wrong...just based on past experience.

(But they do come out with some cool ideas)

The price is starting to drop on them. I bought one just for holster making and got it for $515 IIRC. I've made about 20 holsters with it and have not even had a chance to fire it yet, so I have no idea about reliability.

Lightningman: What you heard about KelTec was true when they first started making pistols, but is no longer the case.

They are indeed small by comparison to other mainstream gun companies and from what I understand have chosen to stay that way and keep demand up (supply down) for their products. Not a bad business model but it is frustrating to buyers who want their newest releases. I have also heard they produce less of their PMR's and Shotgun than other products. That's nothing really new in the firearm industry either.

My lgs has had 3 in for $319.99, though they've all been spoken for. I haven't heard anything back from those that bought them though.

We've had 4 in my shop over the last year and none of them have stayed on the shelf for longer than 2 hours. I got to buy one back last week and put it on the shelf without a tag 25 or so people have asked how much and I tell its not for sale. I'm sure if someone offered 500 the owner would take it but until them it's ours.

Kel-Tec is not a "relatively small shop". In 2010, they produced more pistols than Colt, Kimber, or FN.

Overall, they were the 6th largest firearms manufacturer in the United States.

Most shop owners don't know what the hell they're talking about. Kel Tec is a CNC manufacturer and their only focus is firearms. They are a huge company that produces a very large number of firearms.

Being stored in Hanger 18 at Area 51?

Actually, they don't have time to make such outdated designs. Have to keep all their people coming up with more vaporware for the next SHOT show.

This.

Kel Tec is George Kellgren's third time out running a firearms company (Intratec and Grendel previously), and this time it appears to be the real deal. Political climate, AWB and other factors caused the previous failures, but the man is a firearms design genius with good business sense and lots of tenacity. Kel Tec CNC, inc. simply sounds less intmidating to the anti's that had chased after him before on account of guns like the ubiquitous Tec-9, kind of allowed him to run under the radar until he was big enough that they really couldn't touch him. Notice how the website changed about a year ago? It's no longer Kelteccnc.com; Now it's Keltecweapons.com.

Same place all the Fiat 500s are... in the shop. About 5 months ago I had one in my hand for $374, decided to pass until all the problems are worked out. I don't mind being the last kid on the block with it, as long as it works. Sure is an homely pistol, so is the FN FiveSeven at 3 times the price, might have to put a paperbag on it when I take it to the range.

Pmr 30

I know a Gentleman that has purchased 5 PMR30's. One for each of his family members. He has experienced no problems at all, and loves the pistols. He is a
real "pistolero" and has many pistols and knows quite a bit. Hard to believe I can't find one, and he has purchased five. But then again, money is not an object for him.

I think I just made him a mess of holsters :) One guy has bought about 7 of them from me..

Good info.. I wasn't aware it was the same guy.

I find it funny how everyone thinks a company should just ramp up production because they could.
Of course that endless growth until bust is taught in business school today too.
Just as they teach going public with stock and giving up control of your company so other people can come run it and tell you what you can and cannot do and how money will and will not be used, whether your own paycheck is the right size, etc

But a private company that has constant demand for a variety of products it releases in decent numbers would certainly be more enjoyable to own or work for long term than one that grows and expands constantly, until the market sags, and then has to downsize and lay off tons of workers.

Constant steady enjoyable business lasting decades rather than joining the boom and bust cycles.

I've owned a few KT and they do come out with some innovative firearms...problem is KT quality sucks compared to other firearms.

I won't be buying another KT. At the end of the day, I just don't trust my life or the life of my family to them.

Before all of the fanboys jump in...I've owned (3) S2K, P3AT, PF9, PLR16, PLR22, RFB and PMR.

IMO, KT is a joke and I'd rather spend more money to get a firearm that I don't need to send back for repairs.

I'd like to have one but never seen them in any of the local stores & the prices on GB are crazy. I buddy found one down in Georgia when they first came out. It had the problems that most of them had. One trip back to factory and now it's a sweet shooter.
