The buying glut has to end soon, and if a person can hold out until shortly after that, bargains will be had.

Things are looking better.

I need a 4 pounder of N310 and N320, and want to try a pound of BE-86, so when I can find those items at the same place at a reasonable price, I will buy them, but until them I will make do. Shoot something else or use another powder. Competition and AA #2 for example, or American Select and W-231. Lots of choices and the one good thing about having tried so many things is I have plenty of partly filled one pounders. I can make things go bang until things get better.

Plenty of people have found new favorites by necessity in the last couple of years.

As someone who is new to reloading what do you "old timers" consider to be good prices, ones that you are willing to break down and buy. For me when I started a few months ago $30-35 was what it seemed the average price IF you could find any. Then my local shop got some that was 27-29 and I thought that was reasonable. Now I'm starting to see some on line for around $22 and even listed for $20, but usually out of stock at that price. I just bought two pounds of BE-86 at $22.
Is this one of those senarios where you remember bread at 5 cents a loaf and gas at 35 cents and you're waiting for that again, or do you expect prices will be noticeably below $20 soon? Just asking-what is reasonable??

I'm not really a reloading oldtimer, but over the past three years or so I've paid anywhere from $22 to $35 per pound, although prices of different powders have always varied anyway. I think Bullseye has consistently been my least expensive powder at about $129 for 8 lbs the last time I bought it a year ago.

when I started 3 years ago avg shelf price in my area was about $18/pound. online was about $14 or so in bulk. the prices I see online these days at placed like powder valley I cansider to be very fair from my limited experience.

However - I do have a can of blue dot with $8.77 on it. looks to be from around late 90's.

$19.58 for Zip and /or Silhouette is reasonable. Even before 2013, I was paying $22-23 per pound locally for Silhouette. Ramshot powders seem to run a few more bucks per pound than most other comparables.

If I could find Silhouette locally now, from what I have seen on the shelves, it would probably be $30+ per lb.

A guy I work with has been waiting for AA No.2 & No.5. He finally landed 8 lb. No.5. It is the first time I had seen that powder listed in a while.

Now, many of us newcomers know to be ready for the next go-around. :)

Not an old timer but Ive bought a lot of powder (ask my wife)..but 22$ is not bad atall for this day and age.

Powder Available

powdervalleyinc.com has powder available today. CFE223 ,8 lbs for $145.75.That's $18.22 a pound. They also had H322 for a bit more. The way to beat the shipping and hazmat is to order4-8 pounders at a time .The hazmat is the same and the shipping not correspondingly more. I think I paid $75 for shipping and hazmat;which brought the powder to about $20.57 a pound.

Some one asked "what do you consider reasonable?" This is less than I was paying locally before everything went screwy. I consider this very reasonable.

This site is worth checking frequently.

Gunshow in Raleigh this weekend. :)

One vendor, that is a little too far for me to visit, has been good about keeping powder prices down at the shows. I email him about 2 weeks before the local gun show and tell him what I am looking for. He holds it for me at the show if I ask. I lucked out this time, a couple of pounds of Bullseye and AA#2 will be waiting for me. :D

Amazing after all this time that they have this much w231 in stock. Got mine last week.

i assume your referring to blue collar, or cover six. i'm kinda pissed that they have a raleigh show and not a charlotte this time of year. all the c&e shows near me are at places with stupid fire codes that keep the powder pedlers away. i dont know bout the concord cabarus arena, i need to find out. is the c&e at raleigh as big as the dixie show and are they at the same building?

Yes, it is Blue Collar that I was referring to. The Dixie is the big show, which fills up the Jim Graham building at the fairgrounds. The C&E is never as big as the Dixie event at this venue (yes, it is in the same building) but is it still worth going to for me. Some people don't like the smaller event, I like it because it is less crowded and easier to move around.

i like smaller less crowded too. the sunday show for dixie is much nicer to go to but a lot(reloading) is gone by then

Accurate 1680 in 8# and 1# in stock at Powder Valley again. It does exist!
Good looking out! I ordered a couple kegs to keep the 300 blackout fed for the next few years. All my w296 is now designated for 357. I think i can stop buying for a bit now...
