Where are reloading components available (Not a Discussion Thread)

wow, that was quick!

That's the problem.....

I haven't been able to buy W231 for about 14 months now.
I had a chance to buy 8 pounds of H335, but I already have 3 pounds so declined....that was dumb. I used it in my AR and 3 pounds is good for only 875 rounds. I shoot about 100-200 a month. It might be another 12 months before I see H335.

My dad keeps saying he is worried to keep that much powder around. I tell him in this panic it is crazy not to buy a huge amount when it is available. He only ever wants to buy a pound at a time. 1 pound of W231 lasts us maybe 3 months....

My local store gets stock in every monday. I am crossing my fingers that they have some W231 today. Usually when online suppliers see a few pounds of popular powder, they will have the same 1-2 weeks later. Varget showed up the past 2 weeks right after lots of online suppliers had it.

X-Treme bullets are all I use. Their plating is thicker than either Berry's or Ranier and all of their bullets are double struck for more consistent sizing. For my money, they're the best. Get on their email list and they'll send you notification of their sales which are usually 10% off. Shipping is always free.

It seem that XTreme Bullets has some pretty decent prices on stuff. Anyone had any luck with their stuff?
I use their 200gr SWC .45acp and I love em. Feed through my 1911 flawlessly and give a nice steady and tight group. I use their .380 100gr and their .45 LC Hard cast Cowboy Bullets. Great company and a great product!

I use X-Treme bullets in 9MM, .38/.357, downloaded .41 Mag, .44 Special, .45 ACP & .45 Colt.

I use others as well of course.

The 124 Gr RN and HP have shot very well for me. The HP shot a bit better in my guns, so that is what I have been using.

You guys also notice too, when primers become easier to get, powder is scarce?

I just bought $600 of stuff from powder valley, but did not get the powder I really want. H4350 & Varget. I got mainly primers and bullets.

I'm just venting. Wondering when this will all end and we don't need a thread to help one another. Care to speculate when the end of the 2013 shortage comes about??

IMR 4064 can be hard to get, but Powder valley has it and so does Midsouth. Hope that helps.

I got flamed for saying it in another forum- and I'll keep it short to stay near the topic. but the shortages will ease once the various peoples hit a "comfort zone" for some that means a pound or 2 of a couple powders - and for others, like someone else I know - that means a "lifetime supply so it never happens again" I think he has near 50# now....

empty shelves do something to the psyche. it's not hoarding on purpose, its a mental condition.

back to topic. there'a a local store near me. Lakes Sport Shop in Detroit Lakes, MN that still has several kinds of hodgdon powders.

Don't worry, the people who don't learn and don't stock up will be ready to create the next shortage when something else happens.

"ArtP" says: "I'm just venting. Wondering when this will all end and we don't need a thread to help one another. Care to speculate when the end of the 2013 shortage comes about??"

A guy might speculate that the "shortage" will come to an end when all the people in threads like this are done "stocking up." And there seem to be LONG threads like this on all the forums, so one could only guess at the total numbers of reloaders. Then add all your speculators, and bats*** crazy survivalists, and you have garages packed full, and closets ready to break the floor out.
Ask yourself how much of a stock of components you "needed" before the COOTWH* got re-elected. Now how much do you "need?" For those with short memories, there was a shorter "shortage" after the election of 2008. When that one died down, I stocked up on a reasonable amount, and now I replenish what I use by placing backorders where necessary.

This "shortage" is no different in character from the "gas shortage" of 1973. There was no shortage. The gasoline was in the tanks of people's vehicles, and in gas cans, milk jugs, and empty Skippy peanut butter jars, and from coast to coast. That's why there was no gas in the gas stations, tank farms, pipelines, and the refineries couldn't crank it out fast enough.

Now read the above post until you believe it.

When will it end?

I was talking with a friend of mine that works for ATK (Federal, CCI, RCBS etc). According to him, the ammo phase will start getting better this summer for some cartridges but won't ease off for some of the more popular one's (his words "223, 308, 40S&W, 45acp etc) for about another year. Provided that there aren't any more 'scares' to hype folks up.
He told me they are producing 42000 BRICKS of 22 LR per week! I'm imagining Remington et al are doing more than that.
As for powder, as long as the demand for factory stays up, and people keep hording, it's going to be a while.
