Where are reloading components available (Not a Discussion Thread)

BE86 does not come in 2# containers, that is a typo. If you add it to your cart, it shows up as 1#. So, that price ends up not being good.

Bass Pro in Springfield, Mo had quite a few powders today. I scored 2# of Bullseye and they had several pounds of Red Dot, some Green Dot and various rifle powders.

I was so excited when I found these and the wife didn't care that I got them both!

I was at Outpost Armory in Murfreesboro Tennessee yesterday and bought some 3031 powder and they had a lot of powder in 1# and 8# pound containers in lots of different powders.

I went to the gun show in Greensboro, NC this past weekend and saw some HP38 for the first time in many months. The guy was asking $37/lb and $279/8 lb so I let him keep it but maybe this is a sign that HP38 and Win 231 will be back soon. He told me he spoke to the Hodgdon rep at the Shot Show and was told that Hogdgon hopes to have their backorder situation resolved by the end of March. That's second-hand information so I took it with a grain of salt.

Was this the guy from Reloading Unlimited? He wanted $40 for a pound of Bullseye. :barf:

I've said it before, there is a positive that has come out of the shortage, and that is I have tried many different powders I would not have tried otherwise. I have recipes for several powders for each caliber I shoot, and am not married to any one powder for anything. HP38/W231 is a good one I can use, but it is not even at the top of my list now.

I'm with TopRudder on this one.

I walked into my LGS this weekend to see 40 1lb jugs of W231 / HP38, 4 4lb jugs of W231, and 1 8lb jug of W231. I haven't seen a single pounder of it in many months around here, then boom, there it was. I added some W231 (8 pounder for $155ish) to my stock, but my main goal of going in there was to snag 1lb each of HS-6 and CFE-Pistol to try out. Although I was excited to see all the HP38 / W231, I was more excited to see the other varieties of powders available so I could try some new loads. I thought about getting BE-86, but after reading on here and discussing with the owner, I opted not to. From what I keep hearing, it is a Bullseye or Power Pistol similar powder, and the only difference is the flash reduction.

I used to try to stick with mostly W231 / HP38, but since this fiasco has started, I have at least 9 different pistol powders that I have picked up pounders of to give a go. I have found some that I really, really enjoy, that I probably wouldn't have tried otherwise.

Don't give up on BE-86. My experience has been very positive. I started out with Power Pistol, so I can make a good comparison between them. In 380, 9 and 40, they both work well, but in 45acp BE-86 is much better (in my experience) than Power Pistol. It also works well in 38spl and 357mag (not full mag velocity, though). Where they both work well, the BE-86 gives lower spread and standard deviation.

I still like PP, but if I had to choose between PP and BE-86, I would go BE-86 without hesitation.

BE-86 is one I tried because it became available at a gun show, and none of the other popular powders were available. At the last couple of gun shows, BE-86 was plentiful, and priced $20-$22. Not many people know about it, so not many people were buying it, and the vendors have priced it accordingly.

As far as comparing it to Bullseye, BE-86 is much cleaner, IMHO.

TopRudder;

Thanks for the details, you now have me wanting to try it.

I decided to pass on it until I knew more information about it. I decided between that, and the fact I have quite a few other pistol powders to choose from, that it would be more than acceptable to pass on it this time around.

With that said, next time I see a pounder of it, I'll snag it. I believe your information was the info that I was hoping to find.

iShoot17, there's a huge thread in this forum on BE-86 powder!! No need to avoid it, it's a great powder and Alliant has reloading data for it. If you load .45acp, it's a GREAT powder! Works in all other calibers as well...

Wow is that what I wanted to hear. I didn't want to jump on the BE86 When I believe it was BDS (TOLD us About it). That was nice of him! Was going to get it up north. But w/the 185g. HAPS in 45acp I abandoned P.P.(Due to light show.) and Settled on T.G. . (for the XDS 3.3) my other S&W 1911 can handle the big boom but,,,. Did'nt make it up home but if W/231 comes up in-stock I will get some and pay the HAZ-mat. And some 86 to boot!

Please share your .45 success! I had less than spectacular results with 230 grain RN, with other powders outperforming it. I faired better dropping down to 185 grain FP bullets, but not earth shattering. With 9mm, that's a whole 'nuther story....most accurate rounds to date...124 grain RMR extra thick plate RN, 5.4-5.5 grains BE-86 @ 1.120 OAL...WOW!

Either PM me or post to the BE-86 thread...somewhat off topic here.
