I was going to sign up for tactical shotgun class, but I only have a Benelli supernova 26". I was wondering where I can get an 18" factory barrel so that I don't have to buy a new shotgun, but where can I find one...my internet search didn't yield much.

Perhaps it's just cheaper to buy a Mossberg 500 with an 18" barrel than trying to look for a Benelli barrel.

In some cases, another gun is cheaper then a Benelli recoil pad!

How's $107.54 retail for a Benelli Gel-Pad sound? :what:

In my experience it is not worth the trouble to buy extra Benelli barrels. For only a few dollars more you can buy another Benelli shotgun.

Another vote for just buying another one that already has the 19" barrel. Maybe you could sell off the rest of the shotgun, sans barrel - I dunno.

I had a 26" Nova and thought about getting a 19" barrel, but wasn't going to pay the price I found for that level of shotgun. I ended up buying a couple of Nova defense models (which I'm also selling off - I just enjoy 870s much more, myself).

Good luck.

Not to pour additional rain on your parade but Benelli U.S.A. is notorious for carrying minimal stock and taking maximum time for delivery. Consider getting a Remington 870 in the configuration you want. I think it will have an 18.5" barrel instead of 18" but that extra 1/2 inch won't matter.

Thanks fellas for your comments. I coudn't find prices online anywhere, but $300?? That's crazy, I paid a few more bucks for my WHOLE supernova, I think.

I'll definitely think about buying a cheap tactical shotgun like Rem. 870 or Mossberg 500 or the like before spending that kind of money on a barrel, thanks agian.

An 870 or 500,LVcat, is not a cheap tactical shotgun. They are inexpensive, not cheap. One of these may be your best option.

lvcat,

I thought I remembered the barrels being in the ballpark of $300, but wasn't sure.

I didn't want to push, since you were asking about the Nova, but if you're considering an 870, you can get a used one, with a short barrel (18-21") for about the price of the Nova barrel. To me, it's a much better gun, anyway, for several reasons.

One of my favorite "off-the-shelf" setups for the 870, are the 20" rifle-sighted barrels, on a wood stocked Wingmaster or Police model. What a gun! A used Police model with a bead is also great.

In my opinion, the 870 will hold up better than a 500.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

It took me almost three months after I ordered one to get a left-hand, Gel-Tec recoil pad for a friend.

Back-ordered, and they didn't even know when they would get another shipment from Benelli.

Almost like they get enough orders stacking up, then put them on the boat from Italy!

Yup. Either that or Benelli uses Fiat as their transatlantic carrier. Ever own a Fiat Spyder? :) We're devoted to the Benelli semi-auto shotguns and the Benelli U.S.A. people I've dealt with seem nice enough but getting anything from them is pretty much an advanced exercise in patience.

LVCat2004, what Dave said is true: the Remington and Mossberg are "inexpensive," not "cheap." To my mind the Remington 870 is a giant step up from the Benelli Nova. My favorite 870s date back to the 1960s, are shot at least a few times every month, and will outlast me.

My first car was a Fiat. I hated it and don't know why I bought it...oh yea, it was cheap. The engine eventually blew up. I was happy. I bought a beater used Toyota PU that lasted for years. Oops, this is a shotgun thread...sorry.

Well thanks again, I'll definitely look into 870. I didn't mean "cheap" in a bad way, I used it interchangeably with "inexpensive". I actually have a supernova and I'm happy enough with it, but I'm always up for getting something different.
