Hello all,

Well, for no good reason but after reading TOO MANY threads on this forum, I have decided that I must have an SKS :p

I'm interested in a Yugoslavian made SKS with a bayonet. Where in the DFW area should I look?

Also, what do I need check before buying?

Thanks!

Cheaper Than Dirt in Fort Worth usually has them. Most I have seen there have been Yugo's. Couple weeks ago they had two unissued Yugo's for $179 each - I almost 'sinned' big time :( Dang those two rifles were FINE. The best SKS's I had ever seen on pics or for real.

If you want more choices go to a any local gun show. There's one coming up in FW. There is also a store off of 820 and Lancaster on the other side of the street from The Shooting Gallary Range. It's a small place with LOTs of anitique type rifles including SKS's. I'm not sure what their name was - Military Antiques, Military Gun Supply or something like that. At the last gun show I went to in Mesquite they had them in those storage/transport boxes - you could handpick out of several rifles.

Good Luck!

Try the gun show at Market Hall the weekend of June 12/13th. Double check the date, but that's what it says on the schedule I have.

I think the sponsor is Dallas Arms Collectors Assn. Call their 'phone number in the white pages, or call Market Hall, off Stemmons Fwy.

This is a BIG show, and almost always has plenty of stuff like what the Commies used to shoot at us with.

I got mine from cheaper than dirt in 1995, but they don't sell the gun with the bayonet. We have alot of driveby bayonetings in Dallas.

I would post on the forum, then go to a gunshow.
Or
by the gun at cheaperthandirt and then the bayonet.

Bachman Guns over by Love Field had some last time I was in.
Yugos
Seemed a bit on the high priced side but they also looked to be in excellent condition.

Not a recommendation to go or buy there, just info.

My guess is wait for the next show at Big Town and save a few $ for sure.

Are prices usually less at the Big Town show than at Market Hall or Memorial Auditorium? In Richardson shows, cost seems on par with the other shows I mentioned.

The guys at Market Hall and Big Town are the same IMO and the prices are the same. I think there are more Mil Surp guys at Big Town but Lenny and others may disagree.
The shows just seem a tab less $ than at the shops here abouts and there are more examples at the shows to select from.

I think I know the guy Lennyjoe speaks of. That guys rifles were pretty nice. But not totally cleaned up. The Bachman rifles are very nice and clean but higher $.

If I just wanted to look one over, I would go check out the rifles at Bachman as they seem very nice. Not sure if they even claim they are unissued.

Check out Schramm's at Market Hall in a couple of weeks. Last I saw they had new Yugos for $149 and I really mean new, imported by Cherry's. Some of the best I have ever seen. Good Luck. Splat

I ran up to cheaper than dirt about 6 months ago for a sig and also asked the guy about the russian sks's. He told me that they could not sell them with the bayonet.(it might have something to do with the knife).

I have to run up there this weekend and pick up some .308 ammo, I will check to see whats up with the SKS's and get some prices.

I went to a gunshow instead of cheaperthandirt. I didn't see but two russian sks's - they were both above 300.

Maybe they crazy or maybe that is the going price.

I did find 200 rounds of .308 at $32 (not bad)

Russian SKSs at 300 sounds about right. They haven't been shipping in any of those to the US for some time now.

Yugos seem to still be plentiful and still cheapish for the time being. Sooner or later you have to think they will dry up too. Also, I don't think there were nearly as many Russian SKS rifles imported as there are Yugos.
