Good afternoon everyone,

As you know, its a habit of mine to ask a million questions regarding NJ firearms laws. Its not as if I havent read and re-read the laws over and over again. Its that simply, the answers I am looking for, are nowhere to be found. So in short, where can I shoot legally in NJ, that is not a range.

I have a membership to an indoor range and I frequent it quite often. Im just looking for something more. I remember reading that a hunting license is required for me to enter the woods to shoot for target practice. I just want to know where these woods would be. I know I am barred from state and national parks due to their firearms regulations. So where is there land that I can openly shoot in New Jersey? Also, I am pretty sure I am not allowed to use rifle ammunition in South Jersey, only shotgun shells and slugs due to the flat land.

Any information would be appreciated.

Your best bet might be to ask at your local gun stores. Secondly, perhaps other members of your indoor range have found nearby "remote" spots that are legal and within a reasonable amount of driving.

About 30 years ago, one of my buddies asked around the local gun stores about good shooting areas that weren't "formal" ranges, yet open to the public. The manager of one of the gun stores told him about one particular location, and it turned out to be a "perfect" spot, with a tall hillside to use as a backstop. The longest distance shooting could be out to about 500 yards.

We used that area for about 25 years. It became more popular, and it slowly-but-surely started turning into a junkyard (old cars, TV sets, washers and driers, broken glass, etc.) It had been pristine for about 20 years, for we always cleaned up after shooting....but the popularity of that spot became massive. DON'T tell anyone, other than your close friends, if you find a good spot!

what about Penn or Ny or whatever neighboring state is closest? seem like there is better chance of remote woods outside Nj maYBe?
