I DON'T BELIEVE THIS !!! I bid on a rifle today, my first time ever on GB and my bid won.
Well, it shoud have. I entered my bid with 30 seconds to go and instead of my bid going in i get an error message saying that i had to have an instant paying method on file to buy.
I sat here all day reading everything that gunbroker had written about how to register, bid, buy and nowhere did it say anything about havin a credit card on file with them.
I had a Seneca literaly at my cyber fingertips only to have it ripped away by a lack on information error.:cuss::cuss::fire::fire::mad::mad::mad:

Your mistake was trying to "snipe" on GunBroker. If you submit a bid in the final seconds, all you do is extend the bidding period by another 15 minutes. You might as well give yourself plenty of time, bidding on GunBroker.

Well if you play the auctions with last second bids, ya win some ya lose some. Also know way to know if your bid would have even one. The winner made have entered a higher max bid than you anyway.

Sounds like a registration SNAFU. GunBroker requires a valid credit card on file in case you ever incur expenses as a seller. They have my CC info on file, but it has never cost me a thing to simply be a buyer on the GB site.

Wait a minute - let me rethink that last sentence ...

The winning bid was posted and it was lower than mine. There were only two bids, thiers and mine.

The 15 minute rule usually works in your favor if the auction happens to end during the day time when the other bidders are working and can't constantly watch it.

The "15 minute rule" applies to every GB auction I have seen. I is a good way of running a fair and true auction site.

I know that Bill and i think i understand how it works. This auction ended precisely at the time it was supposed to because my bid did not apply because of the credit card thing.

Looks i don't understand this stuff and need to learn it.

I do know that i lost a rifle that i have been tryin to find for quite some time that sold for a very fair price.

So the issue is whether this was Gunbroker error or operator error?

You will not have an active account without registoring your credit card with GB. Your bid was not accepted because you did not have an active account.

I have had an account on GB for a very long time...

I have never had a CC on file there...

I never bought anything till recently, and these transactions were done with a Postal Money Order...

ADDING:

Just looked, and to register now using a 'Free eMail Address' (Yahoo, GMail, etc.) costs you a $1 fee, and you need a CC on file to verify the 'free' eMail addy belongs to you...

It's a CYA for GB...

My eMail on file is directly from my ISP...Not hard to find me with the IP assigned to me that date/time...

Having a CC on file is not to pay for purchases, but to pay fees for selling. If you never sell on the auction site you will never have any fees. But registering as a user enables you to both buy and sell hence the need for the CC. When you do this they charge you a dollar to make sure the card works. This is refunded the next time you incur a fee but if you never sell you are out the buck. Just so you'll know.

I've successfully bought from GB, both new guns from dealers and used guns from individuals. I don't recall ever giving them my CC info.

Thank you all for your replies.
Thinkin this over last night i did recall giving them a debit card # a few years ago when i registered and the fact that they never actualy charged me the $1 even tho i used a yahoo e-addy.I have tho changed e-addys and card numbers since then.
As suggested above, i'll go to thier support page and do what''s asked there and start again.
Again, thank you all for your responses.
