Is there a listing anywhere of where various US charities stand on gun ownership rights? In particular at the moment I am looking for info on the United Way. I can't seem to find anything relevant with the forum search feature, and much of their own corporate website is typical mysterious PR copy.

The United Way has discriminated against the Boy Scouts, failed to account for its money, and funded organizations that practice anti-Second Amendment bigotry, so it's never going to get a shiny Truman dime from me.

I've to confess I don't have all the facts and figures at my finger tips. Several of the so-called "women's interest" groups funded in part by the United Way have taken noisy public stands against the right to keep and bear arms. As I recall, several so-called "research" organizations funded in part by the United Way were involved in proliferating the usual leftist extremist lies.

My company's United Way drive is coming up soon.

I usually give $5 per week and designate that half the money goes to the local Handyman (assists poor elderly homeowners with maintenance) group and half to the Salvation Army.

I know they get the money because every year I get thank you letters from both groups that state the amount given.

glocksman - Yes, your designated charity gets the money you specify - instead of what they would have been given anyway. That is, if XYZ charity was to get $1500 this year and you specify that $500 of you UW contribution is for XYZ charity, they still get $1500, not $2000. Ask your charity; they will verify this.
