Where do you buy your 1911 parts/upgrades?

So I finally bought my first 1911 yesterday!

I'll tell ya all about it and post pics soon but... I want to start by swapping out grips, trigger, thumb safety, and maybe sights... and upgrade magazines.

Sorry for the amateur questions. I'm not new to guns, but I'm new to the 1911 platform and all the customizable options.

I've been looking around online, but can't find all that I'm looking for. Is there a good place to "one-stop" shop? I would guess Brownells, but I couldn't find all that I was looking for. I tried Midway USA and didn't have much better luck.

I want a solid black trigger, found only one. I like VZ grips, but would like to explore others, Brownells and Midway were just OK for grip choices.

I am looking for BLACK extended thumb safety and slide stop. I can only find stainless or blued.

How can I determine which aftermarket sights are compatible with my current setup without modifying frame?

If you reply with good advice to my above questions... and ask model specific questions... without asking for manufacturer names, country of origin, etc... I may reveal what I bought

Have you checked out Wilson Combat's or Ed Brown's sites? They make some pretty decent aftermarket stuff .

Ed Harrison is also someone to check out, but I'm too lazy to check his site and cross it with your wish list for a one stop shop.

Sorry, no one stop shop. Most of the good stuff needs to be direct from the factory. Noone stocks the really good stuff as most shooters have really poor taste, or the only thing left in stock is dusty junk noone wants. Somewhere between those is a perfect world, that deosn't exist.

1911 parts fit in an envelope so it's not a big deal anyways.

Trigger- ??? I like the Kimber CDP Kidney Trigger (looks like a BMW grill), SVI replaceable shoe (long flat) and the DW Solid trigger. I despise the played out 3hole triggers (boring).

Grips- Direct form VZ or Sarges ( the good tactical diamond VZ's are never in stock anywhere)

Bushings/screws- Midway
Pins- EB from Midway
Sights- Direct from 10-8, Hienie, or Dawson

One of the best quotes I've heard from an experienced 1911 guy is "the only drop-in parts on a 1911 are springs." I say be prepared to file and grind just about every part you get.
