well, i reload. but there was about 5-7years where i did not. and i baically watched for sales to buy my ammo. i would likie to take this oppertunity to suggest to you that for hunting, cheaper is not always better. most 30-30 ammo is made for hunting. so that is a plus. but in a lower power rifle like the 30-30, bullet selection is a big deal. the bullet that i found that worked the best was Winchester 150g hollow point ammo. but now there is Hornady's LeverEvoloution ammo, which will extend the yardage that you can realistically shoot and expect to kill with. but neither of those will you find on sale for $8-10.00 a box! it has been a long time since i hunted with my old 30-30. for years, my wife hunted with it. she was a lot like Annie Oakley in the way that she was an amazing shot with that gun. much better at distance than i could ever do. in fact, whenever we went hunting, that was my nickname for her. she had a knack for that particular rifle / caliber combination. she shot many deer at 200 yards plus with that rifle, which i could never do. i do not think any of them dropped where she shot them, but the only one that went very far was one shot at less than 40 yards. it was hit very well. it just had a very, very strong will to live. and did not die until its blood pressure was zero. my son will be taking that rifle over this year. hopefully, he can do that rifle proud, like his mom did.
