Where do you place your gun in the car ?

On my hip in its holster. I don't have a dedicated "truck gun". I will grab my lever action from time to time to ride shotgun with me.

Being one of the minority helps in this case - that is being a LH person. Mine goes from my pocket to the map pocket in my car door in its holster so it is on my strong side as I drive and then goes back in my pocket when I get out of the car

When I'm not in it, it goes in a GunVault nanovault.

When I'm driving, it's either on my hip, or in a little holster rig I made. I have a Glock OEM holster that I cut the sides off of, andmounted high-strength "Velcro" (it's actually plastic, not the standard plastic/cloth velcro... Still 3M) to it and the passenger-side of the console. Let's me remove the gun while holstered and place it in the box, take it inside, or put it in an IWB holster and carry it with me. Also, since the whole holster comes off, there's no trace of having had a gun there.

It's working great so far.

On my hip... I don't car carry often, but when I do its in addition to my EDC and either in a door pocket, or a holster wedged between the driver's seat and trans tunnel.

I have a holster set up for the center console, just haven't finished making the center console fit the car yet...

Here's a setup I used in a previous car, a 94 Caprice:

I know it probably took me longer to put the car in first, drop the e-brake while pumping the clutch and gas, and getting out, than it would have to draw a firearm...
With a stick, I always parked it in a gear for the direction I was going. I never used the Ebrake unless I was leaving the car running, in which case it was locked. I have an extra keyring that has all of my keys on it, and another set of car keys separate.

This is an interesting discussion because I have not found the perfect spot for my cars yet. I am debating doing like FAS did above as I like his safes for my house. but they won't work well for my mustang.

So far the glove box is the only spot on the stang. The side door panel is not easily accessible and visible to the outside and company rules say the gun cannot be visible outside if I want to park it in the company lot.

So I am still stuck with the glovebox but I am still looking for a better place.

Peter,
This was sent to me from a customer that wanted a secure place in his Mustang to lock up his handgun while at work. He used tamper proof hardware from McMaster Carr to bolt it in the trunk of his 2007 Mustang. Discretion when putting it in the safe would be needed, but that's pretty easy as long as you exit the vehicle with it off your body already.

Ok guys let's say you live in a area where it is legal to carry a gun in your car. So I ask you if you do carry in the car where do you keep it glove box, console, other. I like to keep mine in the glove box for now.
I generally keep mine on my hip as I'm not a fan of a dedicated "car gun". On longer cross country trips I'll often remove it from my belt and tuck it into the center console of my SUV for comfort, but as soon as I stop its back on the belt.

Since I am mostly driving alone, I usually lay my carry gun on the passenger seat with something like a towel over top of it. It's there a lot. I often just keep it in the vehicle and not carrry on my person. That is just what I do. Yeah theft. Yeah, not having the gun with you etc....
