Sorry I haven't posted this over here, today's been a bit hectic as you may have guessed. Here's the updates in order.
"Hi everyone,
as most of you have noticed Calguns is having an issue.
We have exceeded the usage limits of the server, in fact this is what
was sent:
"Your site calguns.net was suspended because it consumed an excessive
amount of resources.
One of our techs was doing a routine check on the server, and your
site was consuming more than 12% of the servers RAM, and more than
10.47% of the server CPU resources.
Our policy is 10% of the entire servers resources. Anything above this
puts other sites at jeopardy, and slows down the entire server for 200
users."
I am in contact with them trying to work things out, either I will
find out what they can do or look in to a VPS.
Sorry everyone, I listed our specs and they said they had the
resources to handle it. We'll see."
"Sorry I haven't had anymore updates, we have a client in at work so it's a balancing act.
What I have done to maintain continuity and give some time for planning the future is switch the plan with the current host from a shared hosting plan to a VPS hosting plan.
The entire site will be migrated to the new server by tomorrow morning or possibly sooner.
Over the next month or so I will be studying up on VPS and dedicated servers and looking into where to park us permanently, with a new VPS, some of the hosting offered by the members or with the exsisting company if a deal can be made.
Either way this is just a glitch, pay no attention to that odd feeling of deja vu it's nothing."
"As far as I've been told the migration to the new server should occur tonight and we should be up by tomorrow. I can't access the cPanel so I'm guessing the account has been pulled from the shared server and is being set up on the VPS server.
Once things are back up and running I'm going to look at other hosting options, Midphase has not endeared themselves to me with this. I even gave them the url before the move and asked about the load. From what I've been learned a lot of these hosting companies 'oversell' the servers on the bet that most sites won't get near the resource usage advertised. 1 in 100 will have a problem so it's a gamble they can take"
That's where we're at right now, things better be working by the morning or I will be even more upset with the host company.
