I have a good friend that just moved to TX from NY and he wants a new Dillon 550b press. He's been using a Rock Chucker and other machine for years and wants to set up with a Dillon now. I found then on the internet homesite, but usually there is a cheaper place to get products. Anyone know? Thanks.

Dave :what::rolleyes:

brian enos has been selling dillon a LONG time and was afaik, the only one offering discounted prices for many years. he has a wealth of knowledge and was very helpful for me, and also his forums are most excellent.

although i have not ordered dillon equipment from the eguns guy (i forget his name), i've spoken to him for hours as well, and learned all sorts of things on other topics, and had excellent experience with the magpul and other stuff i have ordered through him.

EBAY. Remember that Dillon backs up their products for life, regardless of who owns them...so buying second hand is just fine.

This could be a plan but in my observation, Unfortunately, the Dillon machines retain their value very well so by the time you buy a good used machine and then pay shipping, it may have been wiser to by from someone like Brian Enos brand new. Just a thought, FWIW...

Cheers...

One way to save money is to NOT buy the strong mounts.Just build your bench a littel on the tall side.I"ve been using mine for 12 years that way, works great.
I do like the roller handle, but not sure I'd pay extra for it if I was to buy another press.your call.
ymmv of course

Call John Walton he is stocking dealer of Dillon products, ships daily. He is a great guy to work with. He sells you what you need!

Just thought I'd add by $.02 and give Brian Enos a plug. I just spent some more money with him today. Bought my press from him and whenever I need another tool or accessory he's been more than helpful. To me the Service and Helpful Advice is more important than the few $$ that might be saved. FWIW, Dillon is not a "Deep Discount" line and there are not a lot of $$ available to be saved from 2nd party sellers. It's their willingness to give extra effort to your "sale" that makes them valuable. In Brian's case he has saved me money with his advice on which items to buy and what is not necessarily worth it.

Prices on Dillon equipment seem to be "fixed" and I haven't found any deals whatsoever. Last I checked, if you order from Brian Enos you save a little on S&H but that is about it. Enos does have a good website that provides more info than Dillon.

+1 on second hand. I know you asked for new, but I bought used and never looked back. Dillon will fix it or tell you how to fix any issue.

As mentioned above ebay is a good place to buy if you get a good price. Not sure if many on here know about the microsoft/paypal/ebay deal thats been going on to save 25% off most anything on ebay? Basically you just sign up for a MS live account (free) use their search eng. to find the item you want on ebay and pay for it with paypal. All the details here

eBay or Gunbroker. Got my near new SD for $245 in both 9mm w/ toolhead and .357mag with toolhead, plus Lyman reloading book, Dillon scale and brass primer tray. Sold the .357 mag dies/conversion for $30. Net cost $215.

Dillon Pricing on BrianEnos.com
As of 11.01.04, Dillon's pricing on BrianEnos.com is at MSRP.

When I began selling Dillon products over five years ago, I envisioned designing my web-site and web-store so that customers might buy from me due to the detailed product information in my Which Dillon and Dillon FAQs. And also because, after some years of selling the complex Dillon product line, I knew I could make my web-store the easiest place on the internet to confidently shop for Dillon products.

Please feel free to call, however, if you have any questions or need help with your decisions.

I'd like to thank Matt Burkett, Geoff Linder, Mark Stewart, Rika Kasahara, Rob Boudrie, and the good folks at 800Cart.com. Without whom, my website, Forums, and webstore, would not exist as they do now.

Suggestions for improvement are always welcomed.

Can anyone let me know what the real cost of a Dillon 550B? I looked at an old Gun Tests magazine, and it listed the price of a Dillon at $350 (approximately the same as the Hornady Lock N Load AP) - but then noted "$1,037 as tested." I see that a lot, and I can't quite figure out what accessories are adding $700 bucks to the base configuration.

I found that aspect of the article confusing because all that showed in the picture was a roller handle, the fancy mount, and a bullet tray. I don't think that adds up to $700.

I have that issue with nearly all the Dillon articles I have read - people generally seem to test $1K rigs - even though the MSRP is well below $500.

This not a slam against Dillon - I'd just like to understand what's missing from the base rig so that folks never seem to want to review it.

Can some Dillon experts enlighten me?

Mike

All you need is the press and dies. The press is $375 - $400 and the dies are about $60. This is the bare, bare, bare minimal cost.

You would still need to add your accessories such as scale, calipers, flip trays, tumbler....
