So I got that nice old 14-2 Service in .357mag, and want to get it high polish blued. Don't want parkerized or flat, high polish blue for me on this gun because it came that way and it is a beautiful gun. Just need refinish....
I've been told that the old-styled bluing found on old S&W and Colt revolvers isn't available any more because of ecological concerns. Whether other companies offer it these days, I don't know -- I'd make sure the process is the same, though.
I'm a big fan of hard chroming. It is incredibly hard, protects against rust, wears much better than blue (forever, in fact) and is very thin.
In the past DWs had to be copper plated before nickling(or chrome plating) as the nickle or chrome would not adhere to the metal. I don't know if that is still true but I would find out before attempting it.
No but I might ask around at a couple gun shops....good tip. I never think there is anyone local that does anything anymore here in the Albuquerque area! And usually I am right so I kind of gave up even trying to find local pros.
I talked to the guy at Blue Ridge so I am sending it there. I'll do a full report after I get it back. He is a very nice guy and did indeed use to blue for Dan Wesson, in fact he may have blued my gun originally!
