Where can I buy a USGI web sling?

I am going to a Appleseed shoot in early September, and I would like to get a USGI web sling for my AR. I am looking for a cotton version, but I will take nylon.

I have a 'silent sling' and a three-point slling. However, my research into Appleseed has shown a strong preference for a USGI web sling. I don't think I can mimic the web sling functions with my existing slings.
 
Gun show is the best option $$ wise.

CDNN usually has them for $6.99 each. M14 slings.

I was just going to recommend CDNN. Those M14 slings are very cool. I have one on a retro tri-guard AR, looks and functions great !! .
The standard black nylon AR slings can usually be found used at surplus stores for about $4.00.
 
If Fred is going to be at the shoot he may have some slings for sale with him.

You might contact the shoot master to find out.

Fred's is 'out of stock', so I am trying to find another source.
Good idea about contacting the shoot master to see if they are bringing any.

I have seen the Turner leather straps & like what I see. However, I like the flexibility in length of the web sling w/compression locks. With a belt-style sling, you are limited to the adjustment range of the existing holes. I think I want to try the more flexible/cheaper option first.

Well, they might seem like a good idea but there's a reason no one uses that sling type in competition.

Those slings are designed to carry the rifle, not stabilize it while shooting.

Here's a good video on You Tube showing how to use the 1907 style. It's about all you will see at any competition.

I highly recommend the use of this sling for this purpose, easy to adapt for your rifle, easy to use, easy to adjust for different users. Get one for less than $8, learn to use it, decide if you want to spend the $$ on leather, later.

You are spot on with the leathers, more complicated and slower to adjust. You will see some sling improvement with the leathers, in that you can customize for your body, it has no "give", and if you are shooting competitively, you have it set for you to make it easier to get into.

The black 'silent sling' that you see advertised for the AR15s is NOT as shooting sling, just a carry strap. It has no sliding buckles that can be used to make a loop or adjusted. I would not bother with getting this style.

well if you want the same thing used in basic training,, anyone who can go on a military base and use the AAFES post exchange stores can get you all you want. even get you the semi official cleaning kit for the m16.
 
mrwood, I have that exact sling. It is a USGI web sling for all intents and purposes, but I found the clip to be binding on the stock swivel of my A2 buttstock. You might want to try the DPMS, which appears to be almost identical.

I looked at your DPMS link, and I was concerned about the 38" max length. Have you tried the DPMS sling? Do you think the 38" is long enough to use the sling for various support positions?

Also, do you think the buckles are better on the DPMS sling? I have a 4-position sliding buttstock - any thoughts on whether I would still have problems with the buckles on the CJ Weapons sling?

I could always get both....then I would have an extra for the next rifle .....:evil:
 
mrwood, YES they have a few slings you can borrow at the Appleseed. I know this cause I borrowed one in Aug at the Appleseed up in Bristol. Might be there on Sat. You can buy one off the Appleseed website. I got mine at Midway. This USGI also known as a "hasty" sling works fine with an AR with adjustable stock (that is what I have). They give you plenty of time to dial in the length and get in position. It is super easy to use and really locks you into your rifle.

On the cover the the recent TSRA magazine, one of the team members appears to have a web sling on his rifle :). Thanks for posting the youtube link, I may have to get a 1907 and try it out.

The appleseed store sells slings (not the cheapest place but a good cause)

The sling in the Appleseed store is a good one. I paid $14.95 for mine a while back. Recently noticed that a local dealer is charging $19.95 for cotton web slings.

There are cheaper ones, but they have thin metal hardware and don't hold up.

I also have a Turner NM sling and I find the cotton "GI sling" is simpler and works quite well. As an added bonus, it doesn't get ruined if your 2-day event is in the pouring down rain. Been there, done that, and no T-shirt!

You can also change the HW position on the sling and use the clip on the top. This allows you to put the sling on your arm and leave it. You then just clip and unclip from your rifle when going to the line.
