I’m looking at attending one of these appleseed shoots but need a sling; specifically a USGI web sling. I’d like to bring my stainless steel all weather Ruger 77/22 in .22lr. However the 77/22 all weather models will only accept 1” slings with the built in swivels and the only USGI web slings I can find are 1 1/4”. Does anyone have any recommendations? I would like something good quality and preferably not leather.

Thanks, Dan

Not web, but Uncle Mike's makes a 1" military style leather sling that should work for you. I've had one on a little Winchester M75 Sporter for several years and it's a perfect size for most rimfire rifles.

In case you're interested, the part number is 26112.

x2. Not sure if mine is uncle mikes, but my 77/22 has a 1" leather sling that works great

Doesn't the 77/22 just have normal sling swivel studs? If so you can pick up some 1 1/4 swivels at any gun shop / sporting goods store.

you can get the USGI web sling from appleseed's online store, get the nylon. Also creedmoor sports has some cotton USGI slings.

Frankly, you could probably thread the web sling through some 1" swivels if you take off the metal tongue. I think I ran that way for a bit.

The 77/22 all weather has sling loops permanently attached through the stock and forend, through which you must thread your 1" sling. No studs or QD attachments. Plus, the loops are cheap and rattle. For that reason, I hacksawed mine off and replaced them with QD studs like 99% of other rifles. At the time, a conversion kit was available, which I used (it also provided fillers for the old loop holes).

If you want to keep your factory sling swivels and run a GI web sling, probably the best way is to get an extra metal hook for the sling from Numrich, put it on the front of the sling (so you have a hook on the front as well as the back), and then dremel the metal hooks to fit your 1" swivels. As a bonus, the extra hook makes it so you can leave the sling hooked to your arm when you're using it like a "loop sling," and pop it on when you're ready to shoot, instead of having to undo the sling from your arm every time you finish a course of fire.

I also know that somebody makes a 1907 style leather sling that is 1" instead of the standard 1.25". You can do a loop or a hasty sling with that kind of sling too. It is slower to use than a web sling though, especially when you have a hook on the front of the web sling. But if you want them, I think i saw them on Midway or Cheaper than Dirt.
