Hey guys...I don't typically have a problem finding a particular firearm locally, and I've never really ordered a firearm online, but I understand how that process works and have a local shop than can do the ffl transfer for me....now the problem is, I can't seem to find this particular gun for sale anywhere (online or otherwise) and wanted to know if maybe you guys knew how I could get this thing ordered or someone that could special order it for me and have it shipped to my local shop for transfer.

The particular model is a Smith and Wesson 686 Competitor (the SKU from S&W's site is 170319). I contacted S&W and they say they are in production and shipping them out, so they do exist...I just can't find one lol. Help me figure out how to get my hands on one of these.

EDIT: If this is better suited to the revolver specific forum, then I apologize. If this is the case, can a moderator move the thread for me? Thanks.

I've had success getting S&W revolvers from Gander Mountain; they got a 627PC for me in less than a week. Had to pay full MSRP but, like you, I had my heart set on that gun and no LGS could find it. Probably any Big Box sporting goods in your area (Bass Pro, Cabela's) could look for you.

The last hard to find gun I wanted (A Benelli nova h2o), I ended up going with Gander Mountain. They ordered one for me and I had it in a couple weeks. I called that same Gander Mountain today, and was told that they have stopped taking any special orders right now because they are getting so many a day (he said 60 - 80 a day). He said to try back at the end of the month/early March to see if they are taking new orders. He also mentioned to keep my eyes open on the website as they are looking at implementing a plan to take special orders online. He also noted that if that goes through, that ordering through the website would give you priority over in store orders (sounded like they would take priority over in-store orders...so take that how you will and with a grain of salt). He said they the other reason they have stopped taking orders currently is because it is taking so long to fill them. They just can't get guns fast enough.

The other bad news, is that I don't have any "big box stores" near me. That Gander Mountain is 2.5 hours away. A Dick's Sporting Goods just opened about an hour away, but I don't even know if they carry handguns, and from the bad press I've heard about them recently with pulling AR's off the shelf...I'm not exactly jumping out of my chair to go there.
