I'm coming down to Columbia for a few weeks very soon and was thinking of bringing along my Buckmark and Hi-Power. I'll be staying near Sesquicentennial State Park and will be looking for a nice range in town.

Essentially there are two places to shoot indoors in Columbia. The first is Shooter's Choice in West Columbia. The second is Defender in Lexington. Both are a bit of a drive from your location. I have some experience at Shooter's, none at Defender. Defender would be my suggestion as it's easy to get to off of I-20.

There is an outdoor range, but you have to be a member. I am, so if you'd like to go, PM me. :)

Thanks a bunch. I'll probably check out Shooters first since it's closer to my hotel. How was your experience at Shooters? Unfortunately I'm working all during the day so I won't have any time to make it to an outdoor range, but thanks for the offer.

Now I just have to find a place to catch some NCAA basketball :D

Shooters is a decent slow fire handgun range. AFAIK, no drawing from the holster, no faster than one round a second or somesuch. It is what it is.

Navigation to the range can be a bit tricky which is why I recommended Defenders. If you have a GPS, no issues.

If you are staying in the Two Notch area, there is reportedly a nice sports bar there. Otherwise, I'd suggest limiting your after hours travels since you are close to the worst area of town (which isn't that bad, but...).

Palmetto State Armory has an indoor range under construction at their Fernandina Road store but I don't know when it will open. I was in the store and they told me the range would feature some very interesting guns for rent.

I've been to Shooter's Choice, but it's been some years. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the range was nice.

Break camp and come to our gathering 30 Mar-1 April. About 1 1/2 hour north of Columbia near Rockingham. We have the ranges for the weekend and you can shoot to your heart's content--lol.
