I have a Ruger 10/22 in stainless that I would like to have accurized. I know there are a lot of outfits out there that specialize in this, and am wondering what place would you recommend in terms of quality, customer service and price? Thanks.

Do it yourself in definitly the way to go for money saving and feeling good when it shoots good.
Good barrel, trigger work and good sighting system.
Some gunsmith work is trued/squared bolt, angle on the rear of the bolt and recoil spring. There are so many things to do that it can get confusing.
Do one change at a time, see if it improves, makes worse or stays the same.
A good firearm to learn on.

I just had Chris Lukenbaugh of Aquila Precision build a rifke for me, and couldent be happier. The fit and finish of everything he did was excelent, price was great, and the rifle flatout SHOOTS. www.aquilafirearms.com

For just under $500, I would say I got my money's worth, considering I sent him a beat up carbine. He describes the process on his website under 10/22 target rifle. It's hard to buy a C&C stock, GM SS Barrel, and trigger components for that price, let alon have the reciever and barrel threaded, barrel rechambered and crowned, bolt headspaced, trigger surfaced honed, cleaning hole drilled, stock pillar/glass bedded, and the whole thing coated in guncote. I will definatly use him again.

I concur with "Do it yourself." I like Midway target barrels & Hogue stocks. I put a nice Tasco variable on both of mine & swapped the original trigger groups plus change at a gun show for a reworked trigger with over-travel stop. Also install a "buffer kit." This is a high-tech composite pin that installs by using it to drive out the steel factory original; prevents the block from deforming, eliminates the annoying "clack" when the rear of the action slams into the pin, prolongs the life of the rifle, and supposedly speeds-up lock time incrementally. I bought all my mods, sans trigger groups on-line.

Thanks Very Much Everyone for Your Great Information

I'll check out the rimfire central forums. If I can do it myself with my little mechanical ability that will be great.. otherwise I'll hire a pro.

When I bought a new SS 10/22 I rebuilt my old one, used a GM barrel and custom trigger and stock. Now I shoot that one for practice and hunt with the new one. My new SS will hit a rabbit at 50 yards and is easy to carry, the custom will do it at 100 but is a bit heavier. I usually hunt with the new one as the other, i can only shoots better at the bench and that is why I built it
