I'm thinking of moving to Sarasota, but were can I shoot? got to get out of this state New York.
I like Florida, lived hear for 11 years after I retired from Marine crop. but never was on west coast.
I guess I'll have to transfer my rifles to an FFL person, do I need a gun case or two? any suggestions?
I appreciate any help or advice from anyone- Thanks!

Take Aim is great- they recently remodelled the range and showroom, adding several tons of soundproofing and better ventilation. It is a family business that has been there for years and Ive known Don, the owner for decades. They are good folks.

A Shoot Straight chain store/ range went in directly across the street from Take Aim a couple years ago. It is big, it is flashy. Ive heard that the range is nice. I dont care for the owner so I dont go there. Incidentally he also owns the local big travelling gunshow. I rarely go to that either- lots of dealers selling new guns at inflated prices, IMO. There is a smaller travelling show which is way better, IMO- more old guns and private sellers.

There is a place in central Sarasota called High Noon. Big shop with a small attached range next to a pizza place, lol. Open fairly late and convenient, but can get smokey if busy at all and only 15yd lanes.

There is a kinda ratchet place in Bradenton called Bullseye. Small shop with a equally small, kinda primitive range. Nice guys, but not the best facility, imo.

These are all the local indoor places.

For outdoor options, we really only have two.

Knights Trail State Park off Laurel Rd. Is a decent range, big and well- regulated by full-time RSOs. It only goes out to 100yd, however.

Probably the best of all is Manatee Gun Club out east on SR64. Beautiful facilities, good supervision, and lanes all the way out to 600yd.

Oh, you dont need to go through a dealer. We are a free state and there is no firearms registration. You need a permit to carry, but, as long as the guns are securely encased during transit you're good to go.

They need to be in a hard or soft case, or snapped in a holster, essentially. The trunk, console, or glove box are acceptable too as long as they have a latching lid.

What type of shooting? There are clay target places in the vicinity as well

Manatee Gun Club is pretty large. Went there once over a decade ago. They had a 1000 yard range and a machine gun range when I went

Don't move to Sarasota....it's full;). Move to SE Florida with the other NYers and help keep FL red.

... snip...

When moving, you don't need to process your guns through an FFL. You do have to be in compliance with the laws in your new state, of course.

While I don't live in Florida, it took just seconds using Google to answer your question. You will need to secure your firearms if you have a reasonable expectation that someone under the age of 16 will have access to them.

I, for one, will be happy to have you, M1!

As far as keeping FL red, I'm of the opinion that we would have gone crazy liberal a long time ago if it werent for the fact that the NY transplants that do make it here are often the smart ones who realize what a mess those policies have made of their home state.

Just being red isnt a guarantee, either. Our Republican US Rep.Vern Buchan has betrayed gun owners by voting for HR8. We need to look for a better candidate in the next primary.
