Now that the Collin County Gun Range in McKinney and Backwoods Traps in Aubry have closed, where do you go to shoot in the far north Dallas area (McKinney, Frisco, Prosper, Celina, Aubry, Plano, Allen etc...)? I live in Prosper Tx. (North of Frisco) and I have to go to the Bullet Trap at Park and 75 or Bass pro. Also, where do you go for clay shooting (Traps, Skeet, Sporting Clays etc...)?

There are a couple up around Greenville. It may be a little bit of a drive, but there is a lot less traffic coming this direction. One is in Cumby and the other is between Wolfe City and Greenville.

pretty much everything is a drive since I am in Little Elm, I either go to gibsons in mesquite or quail creek in justin

Also Sanger has a range as well, but I havent been there

Here is a thread about CCGR.

Sounds like they were battling with the City. I don't know if the city wanted to buy the land or just shut the place down. It's a real shame that we don't have a good out-door range in the area. I find this surprising since this area is growing so much (McKinney, Frisco, Plano, Allen, Prosper etc...). The owners of Backwoods Traps told me that they were making money "Hand over Fist" but they were made an offer that they couldn't refuse. I've tossed around the idea of opening a range in the area that offers Piston, Rifle, and clay sports. I think with the right management and a little marketing it would be successful (If I could find land at a reasonable price).

I agree. That area is booming so much that I'm sure they'll put another form of commercial super center right where the CC Range was / is.

I'm beginning to think we're going to have to go to OK to find a place to shoot...land around here seems to be getting scarce, as odd as that sounds.

Dallas Action Pistol Shooters (DAPS) holds IDPA and USPSA matches at Elm Fork Shooting Park in Dallas. For information and our match schedule visit our web site, www.dallaspistol.com

Elm Fork also has a rifle range and public pistol bays. The other side of the park caters to shotgun sports. It's a shame about CCGR, but we'd love to have y'all come shoot with us.
