Found out over the weekend that the San Gabriel Valley Gun Club will be closing relatively soon :( So, where's a guy to go? Prado Park no longer has a rifle side and the other ranges I know are all indoor pistol ranges.
:scrutiny:  So, where 2?

Well, first off, what do you mean by SoCal?

Where are you?

One good thing: If you have been happy shooting at SGVGC, you won't be disappointed by any place else!:p

my spots

Burro Canyon in Azusa www.burrocanyon.com
a place to shoot (that's the name)
lytle creek
LAX range (don't know if hi-vel is ok)
angeles range
el monte range (dont know name, by whittier narrows)

send me a pm and i'll meet up with you at burro canyon. ill even bring some milsurps.

I like Angeles Range, www.angelesranges.com there's so much range(s) there it's hard to not find something to do. People complain about the RO's and yes, I have also but for the most part they're okay.

If you want to join a private range you can try Desert Marksman www.dmrpc.org or Burbank Rifle & Revolver Club http://www.brrc.org/ This also depends on how close you are to either one.

Basically I live where OC/LA & SB counties meet. I used to go to Lydle Creek but haven't been in years...not since I saw a group of bangers practicing drive bys :cuss:

Lyttle Creek has reopened and is a lot safer than before. They have excellent range officers and pay close attention to the line. Apparently the people who own it now have no affiliation with the previous owners, and are trying to live down the reputation that it once had.

I went to Lytle Creek for the first time last December because my club's range (Inland Fish and Game) was closed for Dec for range maintenance. I was unimpressed with it. While I don't shoot benchrest, those benches were way rickity. No overhead shade. You have to pay for target boards and you actually have to hammer them into the ground (which was impossible). No running water; only porta-potties.

I've been to places with the same conditions for matches, but I wouldn't want to use a range like Lytle Creek for my weekly shooting. You may as well find a spot in the desert where you can legally shoot for free instead of paying at Lytle Creek.

West End Gun Club is probably the better option. It's before Lytle Creek when you exit the freeway.

There is also an old, very nice gun club off the 15 freeway right around Lake Mathews. The name is "Maywood" Gun Club. It's private, large, and well run. If your interested, drop me a line, and I'll be happy to put you in touch with the right people.
