So where the heck did all the 7.62x54 spam cans of 440rds for $40 go?
I cant find anything but crap for prices on ammo for my Nagant, any help?

Surplus has been getting sucked dry recently....it's one of the things that has made me hesitate in buying a Mauser right now...

Well, there was only so much of it around...

Sooner or later, you had to figure on having to buy or reload new ammo, right?

According to Classic Arms, the US Government is outbidding the importers for the surplus, whcih is causing limited supply and higher prices.

Well, I have about 4,000 rounds of the stuff, 3,100 surplus in spam cans, Bulgarian, Czech, Hungarian, Russian, and Albanian. Plus another 900 rounds commercial, Privi-Partisan, Wolf, Barnaul, and a box of MFS.

I hear that its being used as target practice for soldiers in Iraq and other conflicts. Unfortuatley i just got into shooting within the last year and everything is expensive.

Doubtful.

There was a finite amount of it in the US. It's starting to run out. Cost goes up...pretty simple.

There is some 54R at play in Iraq, but if the US is buying it they're sure not buying old banian surplus. For some reason most people don't seem to understand that there's a dozen companies in the EU and Russia making new production 54R. If the Iraq military needs some, they'd just buy it from Wolf.

The amount of surplus depends on what ships have come in, and what backstocks unloaded. You can still get new production 54R for $5 a box, so what are you complaining about?

I just picked up 3 tins of 300rnds each from J&G Sales of Bulgarian Brass Case light ball made in 1955 for $49 per tin (+ship +tax). Thats .20 cents per round all said and done for corrosive mil surp. I can't find the Wolf for $5 a box and would love to know where to get it for that. Most places are out of stock if they have lose prices. I've seen the Wolf in stock 500rnds for $189 at sportsmans guide....though....that's $7.56 a box

As much as I used to to love Wolf ammo, I've turned to Brown/Silver/Golden Bear ammo. Same (sometimes cheaper) price and better quality.

Yeah, the ammo shortage....sorry bout that, I kinda got carried away....

I haven't had to buy anything recently, but then again I dropped a LOT of money on the 54r back when it was dirt cheap.
