i'm having First World Problems, hahaha.

i recently found gainful employment, finally, after a string of temporary jobs and a few months of absolutely no work. it pays well, and things are starting to look up. so of course, the first thing i want to do is buy another gun, LOL.

my brother-in-law has an extensive collection of 1911s, of different makes, but wants to thin the herd, in order to start a dedicated Colt collection. his plan is to sell his non-Colts, and replace them with equivalent Colts.

right now, he's considering two of them, a Dan Wesson Razorback, in 10mm, and a Springfield Match pistol with a compensator, in .45ACP. both of them run flawlessly, both are insanely accurate, and both have been meticulously cared for. the only drawback to either are:

1. the Razorback is a 10mm. the ammo is a bit more expensive, and has a harder recoil, though i'm not recoil sensitive too much.

2. the Springfield will require a new barrel for me to use it as a carry piece.

he's willing to sell them to me for much less than $800 each. i've handled both of them, and honestly can't decide which one i like better. here's a pic of the Razorback:

and here's a pic of his other guns. the Springfield is the one on the very bottom, with the comp.

so, what do you guys think? i have a while before i have to make up my mind. i also have a Ruger SP101 and a S&W M642 on my to-do list, LOL.

I would take the Springfield. A barrel is fairly inexpensive and easy enough to fit. I'm sure the DW is fine, but I had a horrible experience with them several years ago.

x2... I'd get the Springfield due to ammo costs... though I would just leave it as-is and use it as a target pistol... I suppose you could buy another barrel and have it fitted for carry use if you really want/need to... and then on the + side you'll have an extra barrel w/ comp for target use.

I have a Colt Commander already which will become my CCW after February... so that is why I'd leave the Springfield as-is... I'm not sure what your current collection consists of or whatnot, but figured I'd share that since that is the reasoning for my answer.

A Razorback for eight Franklins? That's a smokin' deal, and I'd be all over that in a New York Minute.

the dan wesson will be a much better deal imho if you ever look to trade it for another firearm. Springfield 1911's are fairly common but the 10mm is pretty sought after and usually in a high demand. No doubt in my mind youd have an easier time selling it if you ever wanted too

I would take both, pay for one up front and make payments on the other ...

And if/when you come across someone really wanting a Dan Wesson in 10mm, who knows what might happen ... :D

There's a Buy/Sell/Trade Handguns section on THR ... you could test the water to see what people might be willing to pay/trade for that 10mm DW. ;)
