Good Afternoon all. New guy here. I've decided my next firearm purchase will be a 1911. Have narrowed the search to either R.I.A Match .45 or a STI Spartan. I understand the Spartan is basically a R.I.A with a couple of upgrades. Doesn't seem to be much price difference. Will mainly be used for target practice and general plinking. Any ideas? Thanks Jim

Welcome aboard Jimbo!

Never owned either, but from what I hear you can't go wrong with either. I'm hoping to pick up an RIA compact tactical in the next month or so. Currently I'm just a Springfield man, but I'm gonna branch out!

I think both companies have good CS, but I would imagine the edge in fitting/quality would have to go to STI.

If the price difference is not significant to you, I'd go with the Spartan as it should have a slightly better trigger out of the box. The RIA triggers usually need to have a few hundred rounds run through to get as smooth and crisp as they could be. That said I'm 100% satisfied with all my RIA/Armscor pistols.

love all 3 of mine

The Spartan uses STI small parts, and also is QC'd at STI, it's definately worth the step up in price IMO.
