I am looking to start shooting a 1911 is USPSA and was wandering if anyone had any ideas on a good 1911 to start with. I am not looking to spend a fortune and wandered if there were some that were better to start with as far as adding parts to later.

I would say Range Officer if you are looking to compete. Their marketing folks say this weapon is designed for folks just like you; wanting and entry level competition 1911 that won't break the bank

SAs are very good reliable 1911s. Great CS and good product at a reasonable cost.

STI makes some nice 2011 double stacks.

They use a polymer grip over the bottom of the frame. I like to sand it down then stipple it for a ton of grip. It ain't pretty, and $TI double$tack$ co$t a $mall Fortune.

No problems with my Rock Island Tactical

use the money saved on ammo and good mags, you'll need them both!

I'd look at Smith & Wesson's offerings. Or, as Remllez suggested, wait until you can check out Ruger's new rendition of the 1911. It looks to be a geat value.

Sorry but I have to post the post required in all threads about getting a handgun but

Get a Glock :D

Please post a review when you get it.

As for your original question...just for future reference if others read this thread...I'd recommend actually going to a USPSA match and talking to the shooters there and look at what they have and recommend.

Ask what pistol they had before they had the one they are shooting now and why they changed?

You're going to be shooting with them in the future anyways so it might be a nice way to get to know them and learn from their experiences.

Never owned a 1911 in my life though I almost took the plunge a couple times. Im gonna buy the Ruger 1911 myself. I figure I want be disappointed in the Ruger they build sensible and affordable guns with that durable Ruger quality no other gun maker can.

Just got my shooting times mag and got to reading on the ruger and to me it seems like a great pistol for the money I wish I hadnt read it I may have to get one of them too. I might end up divorced over the 1911's lol.
