I can get the following scopes for $300 for my first real long range rifle. I intend to shoot out to 500 yads, and farther as I learn. I will be upgrading eventually, but can't afford anymore at this point. I will be using a 1 piece steel base and US made steel rings.
- SWFA SS 6x42 - has a 30mm tube, adjustable parallax, and this etched reticle:
- Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-9x40 - 1" tube, mil-dot reticle (wire):
I really like the idea of an etched reticle, and I believe that the 6x would work fine for me thanks to the reticle being so thick to use up close. I could use the 6x42 on a rimfire rifle when I upgrade later on.
Are wire reticles as fragile as they sound to me, after learning about the difference between etched and wire? If you guys tell me not to worry about the wire reticle on the Weaver, I'll get that instead and take advantage of the 3-10 power range.
Any advice is appreciated...
