It is down to looking at a couple of 308"s and just hard to decide.
One is a CZ 550 Varmint with H S Precision Kevlar stock. 25.6" bbl.
The other is a Savage 10FCP H-S Precision 24" bbl.
Mostly used for paper punching out to 6-700 yards and prairie dogs at range.
Whats your take between the two other than where they are made.
thanks for any info given.

With price not a factor I'd pick the one that is the most appealing to me.

My biased opinion will surely be the Savage, especially if you plan on shooting several hundreds of rounds through it.

I'd choose the Savage. I bought the Black Rain. @ 600 - 700 you might hit the ole broad side of a rather large barn. What a mistake!

I would choose the Savage for the 1:10" twist. It will help you in stabilizing the heavier bullets. About to 700 yards, the 168 gr match bullets will do alright, but I prefer to shoot the 175s. Some 1:12" twist will stabilize the 175s, but not all.

You could even go heavier if you wanted to with the 1:10" twist.

Which ever one gives you that warm fuzzy feeling, they will both shoot about the same in the accuracy department.

remington 700 sps heavy barrel. eastbank.
That's exactly what I did.

And I wouldn't do it again.

Remington throated it so long that you can't come anywhere close to reaching the lands and stay mag length or less. The stock that comes with it is garbage. And the trigger.... Oh the trigger....

If you want to buy a Remington just buy a $300 Walmart special for the action, and build from there.

I have a hard time believing anyone would make a hands-on comparison of the CZ and the Savage resulting in purchase of the Savage. That is if cost is not a concern.

After alot of going back and forth and talking to people around here I opted for the CZ and reading on the net for an out of the box gun you can't beat the accuracy of the CZ, besides I have 2 other CZ's, a 527 varmint in 223 and a 455 varmint 22 mag and they are very accurate so I got the 550 varmint 308 with kevlar stock.
enjoy

This may be "old news" but about 5 or 6 years back, H-S Precision had hired Lon Horiuchi as their spokesman - you may want to consider this when making a "buy" decision.

I have a bunch of .308s (imagine that) best one is my M14 (Springfield Armory M1A), the one rifle that goes everywhere with me....the best, the ultimate combat rifle...I know it aint got nothing to do with this thread...just a comment from a drunk old soldier.

Make sure you look at a Tikka as well, very smooth action and a solid factory trigger, and shorter bolt throw. Tikka's have pretty good aftermarket support too.
