Which add on barrels should I get for my NEF Pardner Pump for deer/bear hunting?

In short the Pardner Pump Actions are Remy 870 clones and pretty much swap-able with everything except the barrel. Therefore to get a new barrel(s). you have to send the receiver in to NEF. Now I figure an 18.5 barrel marketed for home defense most likely isn't the best for hunting. I was just wondering what people would recommend for deer and turkey hunting (I guess elk and bear, but only if it overlaps). The gun is a 12ga. I figure with this and the Marlin 336, I'll be good on hunting firearms for a couple of years at least!

Should I also just consider selling the Pardner Pump Action for $125 and consider getting some old Sears/Glenfield beater?

Yes, i have two Remingtons. The 870 HD i installed a 20 inch IC Rifled Sighted loaded for slugs and 00 bks. The other one is the 28 inch birdgun with the usual modified choke for hunting. I just got the full choke , will see how it performs at longer ranges soon.

Keep an eye out for the slug barrels for the H&R. I found a slug barrel on sale at gander mountain for $60 and it shoots the KO slugs really well

I would do a little experimenting with ammo before I started looking for different barrels/chokes/guns.

An 18.5" CYL bore should do fine with a rifled slug (not the sabot version - those are for rifled barrels) that it likes. Try Brenneke's KO slug first, it has worked well in a wider variety of shotguns than anything else I have used.

For shot loads, buckshot or for turkeys, try one of the various loads available that use FliteControl wads. I haven't used the FliteControl turkey loads out of any of the riot guns here, so I don't know how well they will pattern. But the buckshot performance is nothing short of amazing. http://www.federalpremium.com/hunters_education/flitecontrol.aspx

H&R used to offer a Turkey version of the Pardner, with a shorter barrel, choke tubes and iron sights - you might consider getting one of those, if they're still available. http://www.hr1871.com/artwork/images/nef_turkey_full_dip.jpg
