so what are the laws regarding shotguns? growing up in kansas I always had it hammered into me that a shotgun could only hold three rounds or it was illegal. Is that only when hunting? I see the Saiga shotguns and like them a lot, I just didn't think I could have a shotshell magazine...

I don't know about Kansas laws specifically but so far as I know the only time it's ever been illegal to have more than 3 shells in a shotguns was when hunting. So if the people around you were using theirs for hunting, then they probably never considered that a shotgun not used for those purposes could have a larger capacity magazine. There are of course states that limit magazine capacity in any weapon to 10 rounds (NY, CA, MD, etc.) but otherwise you should be okay using a Saiga 12 with a high cap magazine.

I believe that's only for hunting migratory birds. At least here in NC it is. You could check your state's wildlife info. It should have gun restrictions listed there.

Ya Kansas doesn't care, and I've never heard of or seen anyone abide by the 3 round rule either. Remember it's Kansas, one of the "hold my beer and watch this!" states...

I've converted multiple Saiga's, first one's the hardest and when you're done, you'll sit back and think "that's it? That was easy".

I've owned 2 AK rifles and sold them both. Regretting it. But I replaced them with 2 AR rifles! With this election, I may have to pick up another......and oh yeah, you can't forget to stock up on mags!!!! Any ban will affect mags and not the rifle you already own. I preferred the Yugo mags IMHO, they fit great and fed rounds flawlessly. Maybe pick up at least 5 extra mags?!?! Best of luck!

First off, FPSRussia is not Russian ... or even Slavic. He's a character by the name of Kyle Lamar Myers who is doing some kind of shtick with a parody Russian accent on YouTube.

Saiga is prounounced "Sigh-ga".

Here's a pic with my New Frontier Armory G-15 G-TAC. It was packaged pretty well. The guy at the gun store was really impressed with the condition and said it was much nicer looking than the AKs he's used to seeing. I brought it home and CLP'd everything. The magazine appears to be used. It had some gunk in it that took me awhile to get out with plenty of CLP and a dental pick.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but I've bought some American Eagle new brass ammo, some hungarian surplus corrosive, and some tulammo steel case. I'm going to take it to the range the next time I get a chance and see how each perform. I surely will not be purchasing the AE in the future as it's almost $1.00/round. I bought this gun specifically so I could shoot for cheap reliably. I will be adding a flash hider, haven't decided on any furniture changes yet, I was going to go full wood conversion but these two look nice together...

Saiga is going to be a lot nicer (as far as fit/finish... both will likely function the same).

I say Saiga. The restoration process is also a lot of fun.

I know OP already got an AK but I thought I would mention the FEG AMD-65 if you want to pick up an awesome AK variant cheap.

It's got a side folding wire stock, foregrip, accepts high-cap mags, built in flash hider (to make it legal length), and runs like a beast. I bought one locally and everyone loves it. Best part is they're cheap. Bud's has them for about $470.

I vas very impressed with the fit and finish of the VEPR I got recently. Blows my Saiga away for quality. Centerfire has some smoking deals on them at the moment.

Man ive had pre ban aks with bad rivets, loose wells, and canted sights. Look 5 of them over and buy the tightest gun they all shoot. I dont know hutch i found my 1st.ak in a hootch.
