I was looking at Stag, CMMG, DPMS, RRA,LMT. Are there any differences? I was going to put it under a stag upper or maybe a RRA depending on price or if I here something bad about one or the other. Also I was looking at complete lowers not stripped. All the lowers I listed are $230+$16 for shipping and insurance except the Dpms is $220. Does anyone now another reputable place that Is cheaper because I want to make this as cheap as possible while still using good parts.

What purpose do you want to use it for?

If you are looking for the lightest reliable 16" upper, best 16" with a midlength gas system, or the most accurate 24" setup you can find for varmint hunting, the answer will be different in all three cases.

Are there any differences?

Yes, there are differences. You are probably going to need to be more specific though since few people will have time to list the differences between every model for every manufacturer you listed.

I just want to get an average AR before the election. Yes I want it to be some what accurate. Its just for the range. Hunting with it is not an option because I live in Pa and you can't hunt with a semi-auto rifle. Oh it's going to be a .223 not a 50cal and over $1000 for just the upper is to expensive. The whole gun has to be under $1000.

Ok.

Then if you don't care about weight (and it would seem you don't since it's mainly an ANTI-AWB weapon), you could go with Del-ton, inc. They are inexpensive but pretty good.

RRA's from Legal Transfers seem to be really good in the $ vs. quality area.

If you want a slightly lighter gun, you can ask Pete (Legal Transfers) about a light weight barrel on the carbine. He's top notch as is RRA. Lots of questions asked of both outfits and neither gave me the "geez a freeking customer" 'tude.

I wish I could pull the trigger on an RRA purchase from Pete, but I just had another Budget issue so that’s been put off for a month or more.

Either way, think midlength gas system.

Help?

Del ton makes a great upper....i have a 20" a3 and it shoots real nice. email them about the steel they use. Great people to deal with and fast delivery

Both DTI (Del-ton) and RRA use Wilson Barrels (I think) which are 4140. Unless you plan on deployment with full auto... It's neither here nor there for your application.

I have never used Del-ton personally. But they seem to come well recommended. Do a search on Del-ton to get the skinny on what many here think of them.

ETA: The only reason I knocked Del-ton off my list was they lack a Middy Lightweight option. CMMG and RRA were the only ones within reason to have that. RRA is much less but CMMG is a 1/7 twist.

Ok. So you don't need 4150 unless you are going to shoot full auto.
I would like to thank everyone for all the help. Also if anyone has more info on lowers keep it coming. Also on uppers that aren't to expensive.

I like this one (complete rifle); I'd pay the $40 extra for the chrome lined barrel.

Talk to Pete @ Legal Transfers. He's a good bit below MSRP and you can get the component parts over time that make up the Elites.

Also, you may wish to check Gun Shows in your area. You can probably get a lower there with tax for about the same as you can online with shipping and the transfer fee.

I don't know about spending that much money all at once. If I was going to spend1k it would be on a DPMS .308
Most places charge less than the "suggested retail price." But as others have pointed out, you could buy that rifle a little bit at a time, and you'd even save the excise tax that way. Or if you like the configuration, you could put that upper on a lower from another company, or vice versa.

I have a complete RRA mid length that has been perfect, a CMMG that has been a stone cold, rock solid perfect performer & a new DPMS upper that has been a great performer too -- although I've only had it a little while.
IMO -- you can't go wrong w/ any top mfr ;)

I would like to thank everyone for all the feedback. I signed up on THR because I saw how wise everyone is. THR and all the users have helped. I really like being able to communicate with people that have experience with the particular brand.

If anyone has any more info please post it. It would be highly appreciated.
THANKS!!!!!!
