I saw a Beretta today that I hadn't seen before and isn't in their current line up. The gun looked a like a cross between a 92 and PX4. It had a lot of plastic but no rail from what I could tell. It also appeared to have night sights and plastic rubberized grips. Someone said it was a law enforcement model, for whatever that's worth. Any ideas what this was?

Someone else here used this phrase but it's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that firearm.

Butt-ugly plastic shooting appliance with the ergonomics of a caulking gun.

I'm not an expert but I believe the frame and slide are actually all metal with the exception of the grip panels and rail cover which are obviously plastic. So, I don't think it's actually a plastic gun, even if that's how it appears. I haven't held it so I can't comment on the ergonomics versus a standard 92fs but they don't actually appear to be all that different, other than the grips on the 90-TWO can be switched out for various sizes. I will probably just pick up a 92 with rail and be done with it but I did find this model to be a viable option.

My forum source for all things Beretta 92 is forum member Shipwreck.

I believe he didn't care for the 90-two mostly because it didn't use standard 92 grips. He thought the 90-two grips were kind of slick.

The 92A1 is similar to the 90-Two, but uses standard 92 grips.

Shipwreck is probably the guy that has gotten me interested in Beretta's the most, but my interest has gone up even more since Wilson Combat started offering Beretta 92 parts and customization. My understanding is Bill Wilson is a big Beretta 92 fan himself.

I have been put off by the rail on the 92A1 and the price that I typically see around $700. I'm beginning to warm to the rail a little, and the dovetailed front sight on the 92A1 (standard 92FS front sight is part of the slide) is a good idea that gives you options. In addition, I found two separate vendors at the local gun show selling their 92A1's for $500. I may be getting closer to buying one.

Well I bought the gun. I don't know why it didn't catch on. It adds features I don't have in my 92fs, like night sights and a rail, so with both I feel like I have all bases covered.

I think Wilson is offering some good options for the 92. While they are certainly in the game to make money I don't think they would put their name on a low quality product. To me Beretta does a lot of things right with this platform and if Wilson can add to that it's awesome.

I have a 92FS, and a 92FS Compact, but always liked the 90 two. I like its features also. You will be happy with it.
