In theory, Santa is going to bring me a set of Tech-Sights for my Ruger 10/22.

In the meantime, I'd like to touch up the front sight with some paint. Was curious which color you all prefer to have your iron sights? Orange? Red? Neon Green or Yellow? Also, what kind of paint should I use?

I want new iron sites cause I have a hard time seeing the front blade on the factory set. Thanks!

I used white nail polish. I heard of guys using a gold paint marker. Just keep the solvent off it. I also heard of guys using porcilin touch up paint for appliances

Try white first it is a great basecoat. If you do not like it put red over the white. It helps it stand out better. When you get tired of them brush them off.

Black.

It doen't flare / reflect light differently from the side in bright sun and move your groups as the sun angle changes.

I prefer flat black. If you a 10/22 with the bead front sight, clean the face and hit it with a little clear coat to keep it from tarnishing

Try a couple of different colors and see what works for you. I've tried pink, green, orange, and red, and I'm not sure that simply paint will work as well as a nice bright fiber optic sight.

If you do find a color you like, just put clear nail polish over it, and then it will stand up to cleaning solvents too. You can always use nail polish remover to take off that protective coat if you choose.

I prefer black, as well. It works best and it works in all lighting conditions except dark...and only tritium is going to work in the dark.

I've used other colors over the years, but eventually discovered target sights were flat black for a reason. :)

Of the colors I have used, pink was the most visible in all lighting conditions and environments. Yellow is really visible, but it just seems to blend in with the environment once you get in the woods...unless it is fiber optic, of course.

Edited to add::

Same here at times. But a peep sight fixes that. Just be patient and try out your new toys when they arrive before you paint, you may not need it.
