Practice in front of a mirror in a dim room without using sights at all. I found that at seven yards the muzzle points directly at the image of the BG's COM (Center Of Mass) if I try to "aim" at the right side of his image.
Actually, using this method is more or less self-correcting for distance, at least from about three yards to about ten yards. Beyond that, for me at least, all bets are off.
This is with a straight-magazine-housing 1911. I imagine if I put an arched mainspring housing on it things will be different. Practice the draw-and-point from the holster for each shot. (Most ranges won't allow this without you begging and bribing and whining to be allowed to try it.)
Using an airsoft clone for point-shooting practice is beneficial as well.
Sights? I doan need no steenkin' sights!
At least not out to ten yards.
In your point-shooting practice, make sure the gun is unloaded, standard disclaimers. yadda yadda yadda.
