I want to buy a new upper. I was looking at Bravo Company, LMT, Sabre, etc. Does LMT make a midlength? Didn't see one on their site.

How does Sabre Defense compare with Bravo Company? I've heard good things about Bravo Company. Couldn't find much on here about Sabre, but the few posts I found were positive. The Sabre is about $75 less.

Any other suggestions? I want to go with one of the "top tier" manufacturers.

Criteria:

1. 16" barrel
2. midlength gas system
3. 5.56 mm
4. flattop
5. 1:7 twist

I'm not going to put a rail on it or anything so I don't care about that stuff. Just want to keep it simple.

Everything I've heard about Sabre was very good. Do you know if the barrel on the Sabre is Hammer forged?

I think the ones already mentioned are hard to beat. But also look at the Spikes Tactical midlength upper, very inexpensive for a tier 1 upper.

I bought an ArmaLite last year that's been excellent. The only dings against it on "The Chart" are batch testing on bolt and barrel, straight pins instead of taper on the FSB and 1:9 twist. I wanted 1:9 and the ArmaLite was the highest rated midlength upper with that twist at the time. Never been sorry with it and accuracy is great with 55-62gr. as I hoped it would be. The Spikes middy shouldn't have any negatives and is 1:7 for about $535 - for a complete upper!

I haven't put my Spikes midlength upper through enough to recommend it. But on paper it's an extremely good buy.

I'd go with Daniel Defense or Bravo Company, having done a lot of research on this same subject recently.

get a BCM or DD, definitely.

Other good buys are CMMG, Sabre, used Charles Daly, and LMT.

Noveske in my opinion is overpriced. I'd avoid them unless you really want that M249-grade barrel.

Another possibuility:

They come with green or black furniture

I recently got the $479 Spikes mid-length upper from AIM that was mentioned above, and a Spikes complete lower from Brownells, and I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing ( and I've owned Colt,S&W and Rock River). I've yet to fire the thing, but from everything I've been able to dig up,I got a great deal on a great rifle.
All of the above recomendations are good one's, but the consensus among a lot of the AR buffs seems to be that the Spikes deal is hard to beat right now.

I forgot to mention, I want a 1:7 twist.

How does Spikes compare with Bravo and Sabre? That sounds like a pretty good deal but I don't know anything about them, are they considered a "top tier" manufacturer?

The Spikes has a 1:7 twist, and I believe the others recommended above do too, except for the Armalite which IIRC is 1:9.
And yes, I also believe Bravo co. and Sabre are considered among the "top tier' AR manufacturers.

My BCM middie is great and on personal experience I recomend them 100%
That said, the Spikes lower receiver, .22 conversion kit and tungsten buffer I have handled were all top quality kit.
Tough choice but fortunately they are all good. I'd go with availability and price to make my decision.

The Spikes midlength upper has been getting rave reviews and is the best buy when it comes to a milspec upper. I believe the only thing that is lacking is HP testing of the bolt and barrel but that may have been corrected by now. Many online reviewers that I trust have given that upper the thumbs up so I wouldn't be afraid of it in the least.

it isn't quite mil-spec. And lacking HPT isn't exactly a thing to correct as it is a thing they decide not to spend money on. I also doubt they're using mil-spec cert'd steel, and are just using 4150 standard steel.

However, it is a good buy, and the mil-spec steel isn't a necessity unless you want your gun to survive quelching (which a milspec steel barrel still won't do anyway if you run it hard enough in a short time)

it really gives me buyers' remorse when I see what has come out in the past three years since I got my AR. I got a top-tier AR, sure, but I paid a lot for it compared to what a BCM would cost now.

I've been reading more and more about the Spike's upper, and it seems like a great deal... $200 less than Bravo Company. I read that they are now doing the testing, so are there any drawbacks to Spike's over Bravo now? I can't think of any, just want to make sure I'm not missing anything...
