Which CQB sling?

I'm going to get a CQB Solutions sling for my government sponsored trip to Iraq. The web site is a little cloudy on the difference between the SOP TRB and ERB. Can anyone provide some insight here?

FWIW, I'm a communications officer. I won't be clearing houses or patrolling streets. Will be convoying a good bit and of course will have my M4 with me 24/7 for the next 12-18 months.

I recommend checking out www.thewilderness.com and looking at the Giles 3 point sling with quick disconnect or the single point sling. Of course, a single point sling requires installation of a mounting plate on the buffer tube between the lower receiver and the spanner nut, so you may not want to mess with that.

I like the CQBSolutions basic 3-point sling. Simple and it works.

How about Blackhawk slings? I currently have a "IBD Products" sling that I love but have been ordered to replace it w/ the Blackhawk , which I haven't installed yet, because the powers that be thinks that's important or something.

Any experience?

I like the idea of this sling in their "armed forces deployment package" as it comes with the parts necessary to work with a full size M16 or M4. It also has a width of 1.5" - if you ever have to stand around very long, the wider the better.

I just ordered one from QuanticoArms - should receive it in the next day or so.

I personally use a Chalker Sling. I believe you can find them on the Emerson Knife homepage. Give that a check out. I have carried my AR in the past, and currently it has a home on my Remington 11-87p.

There's no sense in me purchasing the armed forces deployment package--I carry a M4 and that's it. I'm pretty much set on the SOP sling but can't figure out the real difference between the ERB and TRB...

I picked up a CQB CST, the Transition Release Buckle adds slack to the sling for firing from the weak hand shoulder. The Emergency Release Buckle disconnects the sling from itself so it can be taken off in a hurry without having to lift your arms thru and such.

The front cam buckle is the TRB and the rearward fastex? snap buckle is the ERB.

The ERB is the emergency release buckle. It simply allows you to remove the sling quickly if need be.

The TRB is the Transition Release Buckle, and instantly allow you to create extra slack in the sling for shooting offhand.

The SOP sling has the widest webbing of the bunch and is very comfortable to carry for extended periods.

As far as I know, they all have the TRB, the ERB is an option.

Adam at Midwesttactical is who I bought my slings and a bunch of other stuff from, he's a stand up guy.

I guess it depends if you think that the extra ERB release is one more thing to go wrong or not. check out the link in my post above, the SOP in the pic has both the TRB and ERB. You can get it with just the TRB and not the ERB if you want also. They are 2 separate and distinct features.

I use a 3-pint Giles sling from Thewilderness and I love it. It's very heavy-duty and simple. I personally do not like the quick-release buckle but I can see how certain people might want one. If you think you might need to get out of your gun in hurry or might be grappled by someone, it could be a good idea. If gun security is a larger concern, you may find the latch a dangerous accessory. It's a personal call.

ERB or not

It all depends on your point of view. If you think you may ever need to get the sling of in a hurry or like the convenience of being able to release a buckle and remove the sling and weapon from your person go with the ERB.
