There's always a ton of debates about capacity, multi-use, CCW-ability, cost of ammo, plastic vs. metal, and type of ammo used. So, I'm sitting here bored, and thought I'd pose a question to THR.......

....all things being equal--i.e. without focus on capacity, round used, cost of ammunition, CCW-ability, plastic v. metal, etc, but focusing on pure "fun" factor--

Which do you enjoy shooting more, semi-automatics or revolvers? I.e. which is more "fun" to you, without falling back on the "usual" arguments in favor of one or another for X or Y reason?

At the range where a lot more things are equal, I like shooting other people's ammo :D so if it's out of a wheelgun or bottom feeder, I'm equal opportunity ;)
If it's my own stuff, right now, I'm on a wheelgun wave right now

I spend a lot more time shooting and less time chasing brass with my revolvers. I prefer revolvers anyway, tend to be a little more accurate than autos, though I own some pretty accurate autos. I just find range time goes better when I'm not on my hands and knees hunting fired brass. I've always been a revolver guy, but I carry autos so I shoot them, too.

I think my single action replica revolvers are the funnest thing to shoot in the pistol realm. Its just fun to play cowboy for a bit! I am kind of a traditionalist tho. I would love to get a black powder pistol and rifle soon and I love bolt action milsurps! Milsurp revolvers are sweet too, and cheap!

My range trips generally consist of a single semi - an STI in .40 and the revolver du jour.

The revolver is a fun / work thing. Somebody burst my bubble about single action and convinced me I need to develop my DA-fu. If I'm seeing progress, the revolver is great fun and the STI is shot just to stay in practice.

If things aren't going so well with the DA progress, the revolver becomes a mix of fun and work and the STI is used to wash out the sour taste from not being able to hit the broad side of a barn.

I only reload revolver rounds - I don't chase brass. But the semi's ammo is way cheaper so it's probably a wash.

How's that for not taking sides? They both get shot and the one that's enjoyed more is dependent on the results of trying to teach this old dog new tricks.

My preference seems to run revolver right now. As was said, no chasing brass to save to reload. Also, I just like the feel of a nice DA Smith and Wesson. And I can shoot a DA revolver pretty well. It's also what I prefer to toss on my belt while out hiking around, though the Glock 26 does get the nod for that role quite frequently due to it's lower weight.

Of course, now that I have a K-frame .22, I may be a bit biased. None of my other pistols and revolvers come out much to play anymore! :neener:

I like a revolver more for a few reasons:

When shooting in the desert/forest, its wayyyy easier to save brass instead of picking it out of the bushes.
I like the fun of SA vs. DA shooting.
I like that I'm more forced to slow down and only fire 6 at a time w/out reloading. Probably not an issue if you have more discipline, but hey, that's me.

Aside from a few old semi-autos (like my old Beretta Mod 1934, Colt 1911 and Browning-hi power when we could still own them) I prefer revolvers. Modern semis look ugly to me. There's something very beautiful and olde worlde about a revolver that I just like.

I'm also in the revolver camp. My auto'sare fun, but there's nothing better then a Smith & Wesson .357.

I have only one revolver, but it's a good one and I have been spending most of my time with it recently. But for pure fun I really enjoy the High Standard Supermatic my dad left me.

I like autos better. Seem to shoot them better. Went to the range
today and shot a Ruger MK11 with a Leupold 2x scope. Shooting at
a swinging target off hand and that's hard for me to do. Took a colt
Python using WC ammo did OK with it. Seems like I can shoot a
1911 style better than anything.

There needs to be a none of the above option. Just for pure fun, a pump-action "pistol" in 12 ga. gets my vote.

LOL, you can click, "show poll results" instead of voting option 3...
For me, it's the autoloaders.

Something about the slide and the magazine.

I like shooting my 1911 best, but I hate picking up the brass at the range, so I find myself shooting the revolvers at lot more at present.

Where's the "all of the above" option?

Given that up this way hand gun shooting is a target or match sport done just for fun I have to say that I enjoy the results from both my revolvers and semis equally. I love the accuracy of my Model 19, the push from shooting my 1911, the "Make My Day" feel of my Highway Patrolman pumping out a string of six .357 Magnums and the slap of my CZ Shadow as I perforate an IPSC target.

For strictly recreational shooting, which does not include practicing for a match or anything, then a revolver is fun to shoot. No need to shoot fast, (consuming a lot more ammo) no need to pick up brass, can shoot sedate loads up to magnum mountain killers....

DA, SA, it doesn't matter.

I own a .32 Auto and a .45 Auto, all the rest are revolvers. I like J frames, K/L frames and N frames. I would even like an X frame if I could afford one... I like-um SA or DA as long as they go boom. (I'm feeling by now you know how I voted, no??) :p
