My 2003 Hodgdon manual has 7.7 (2 bullets, 7 powders) and 6.5 (4 bullets, 5 powders) Jap data. If you use any Hodgdon powders, definitely get the Hodgdon manual -- being in a magazine format it's quite inexpensive.
In the early 50's as a member of the state guard rifle team I was given thousand of rounds of GI 06 ammo to practice with and my first High school reloading business was turning a bunch of it into 7.7 Jap ammo. With my gunsmith approved $5 jap rifle I tied it to a tree and fired my GI ammo in it to fire form the cases then trimmed them to length and loaded them with 45 grains of 4895 and .311 diameter hunting bullets. The 45 grains was 5 grains less than the standard 06 load. Also I only would sell the ammo to men whose rifles were approved by my gunsmith instructor as there were some chromium deficient ones produced by the end of WW2.
