There are 2 marlin 336s that have sparked my interest. The 336W weighs 7 pounds, is 38.25 inches and has a 6 round tube plus 1 in the chamber. The 336Y weighs 6.12 pounds, is 34 inches in length and has a 5 round tube plus 1 In the chamber. They both cost $382 dollars. Which one do you think I should get.
I plan to use it as part of my prepper arsenal and a hunting gun.

Depending on your height, the 336Y may be too short for you. The "Y" designates the youth model; its LOP is shorter than the 336W. Try shouldering both before buying if possible. If that's not possible and you're a normal-sized man go with the 336W.

From what I've been hearing and reading, the best Marlin to buy these days is an older used one.

I've got the 336c, have had it for many moons, but rencently Marlin started producing the 336Y Spikehorn again. Not missing out this time and have mine on order. A trapper marlin 30-30 I think will be handier. Had 94 trapper at one time, it got sold, I regret. The shorter barrel did'nt affect accuracy and never noticed the one less bullet, usually one bullet will do.

I spent considerable money essentially convertng a 336C to a 336Y. I would definately go with the 336Y. It will be a bit more handy in its smaller size. You can always get a longer stock if LOP is too short. I suspect you will be fine.

There have been mixed reviews on the new remington-made marlins. If you have to have a newly minted marlin, make sure to inspect the rifle thoroughly before you leave the store with it.

Buy the Y and in a hurry before the guy finds out what he has. They were made in limited numbers and are HARD to fine. They sell at a premium. You can always get a standard rifle later.

I believe the "W" is their standard lever. Nothing fancy. The "Y" is the youth.

It`s your money, buy something. :)
