Well, it looks like I am leaving Texas again and this time for at least 3 years. I am going back to Alaska and back to land surveying in remote areas. I am putting together my list of handguns to take with me (mostly for hobby shooting, but also for carrying), as the rest will be moving to a secured facility.
It's pretty much a no brainer for most of them, especially the rifles. For the handguns, my S&W 629-1 6", 66-2 4" (for my wife who is also a land surveyor), Colt Delta Elite, 1991 NRM government, and Glock 20 will all be going.
I know this is really splitting hairs, but the one that has me hung up is which N frame .357 to take. The choice is between a 27-2 5" and a 28-2 4". Out of all of my firearms, the 27-2 5" is my favorite. I have two of them. One of them with a regular trigger and hammer and one of them with 3 Ts. I would be taking the one with the regular trigger.
Here are the relative advantages and disadvantages that I see:
27-2:
Advantage:
1. I love it.
2. It's the revolver that I want on my hip when the time comes.
Disadvantage:
1. To put it through the tough environment I will be in and the rust that will almost certainly follow will bother me some.
2. It is harder to carry IWB.
28-2
Advantage:
1. It wouldn't bother me to use this revolver in the manner it should be used.
2. Rust and finish loss would just add character to this fine revolver.
3. I have an IWB and OWB holster for it that fit well.
Disadvantage:
1. Not much, but it doesn't give me the same warm and fuzzy feeling as the 27-2 5".
What do you think?
