I'm going to try my hand at turkey hunting this year but I don't have a 'turkey gun' per say. I have a Rem 1100 imp cyl 12ga 28" bbl and a Rem 870 20ga w/ RemChoke system that I could put an extra full choke in.
I think both are chambered 2-3/4"
If it looks like I might continue this I would buy another 12ga 'turkey gun'.

federal makes loads specifically for turkeys. if you have a 3" chamber, get some of the 2oz #6 or #4 3" turkey loads. out of my mossy with x-full choke, it patterns great at 50 yds.

if you can't find any of those, just some plain #4 or #6 loads will work just fine. pattern density is the main key to a good clean kill.

oh, almost forgot, i would go with the 12ga, but if you're really into a challenge, you can use the 20ga. don't take any shots past 30 yds with the 20 though.

Neither would be my pick as a premiere turkey gun, however, if shots are limited to say 20-25 yards, they will both be lethal. I guess if I had to choose one, it would be the extra full choke 20 ga.
