I am looking to get a new pair of electronic hearing protection. I currentley use the Peltor Tac 7's and have been very happy with them. The only reason I am looking for something new is that shoot mostly out doors and I wear a boonie hat. The regular style muffs are a pain to wear with that style of hat.

So I am looking for a pair of behind the head style of ears. I have it narrowed down to the following models and would like your suggestions on them or anything else you might recomend.

1- Silencio NightHawk Tactical Electronic Behind the Head Earmuffs (NRR 20) Black $118.95

2- Pro-Ears Predator 200 Behind-the-Head Electronic Earmuffs Black $159.95

3- Peltor Tactical PRO Stereo Behind the Head Electronic Earmuffs Black (NRR 25dB) $179.95

4- Something else?

I am leaning towards the Peltors only because I have had good luck with them. There service is very good. I dropped mine about 1 month out of warranty and damaged them. They repaired and shipped them back no charge. So they are great in my book. But if something is better then I may go that way. Thanks for you thoughts.

I've been looking at that Peltor behind the head model, I have to wear a big hat for sun protection, which isn't really compatible with most ear muff hearing protection. While I can use ear plugs, they aren't as good as the muff type protection when shooting magnum handguns.

You should have added NONE to your poll. All the ones I've tried (all cheap I admit) didn't work worth a bean. If I need light protection I wear plugs, medium muffs and for heavy, both.

Honestly, I can't justify spending a couple hundred bucks on premium electronic muffs when I could just buy another gun.

Peltor Tactical 6 give you the best mix of quality and value. You need look no further. And they only cost around $65.
I suggest doing what many shooters do: use earplugs under your muffs and turn the volume on your muffs all the way up.

I've got some $30 electronic earbuds I picked up at Wal-Mart.

They work just fine for shotgun games- amplify everything up to a certain point, then chop it all off. Even after several rounds (in one day) of skeet using only those earbuds, I have not heard ringing or felt any soreness in the ear.

I don't like them for rifle or pistol shooting, for that I just use earplugs and regular earmuffs- gotta keep my good hearing.

Be sure to wear plugs with whatever muffs you pick. The safety glasses/shooting glasses we wear knock about 5 dB off the NRR due to the seal being broken by the temples.

My wife and I both have the Tactical 7s and are very happy with them. Price was a bit more the the 6s, at about $110 a piece.

Peltor comtac muffs. they fit under a kevalar helmet and are comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time. even slim enough to get a good cheek weld on a sniper rifle laying prone.

I know they don't have as high a rating as some other muffs out there but I always double up with foam plus when ever I am at an indoor range. outside it doesn't make much of a difference to me.

Well I have decided and just placed the order for the Peltor Pro Tacticals. I am really happy with the Peltors I have now so I will stick with the brand that has worked for me. FYI I do always double up with plugs and muffs at indoor ranges. Outdoors the muffs are more the enough for most pistol calibers. If I am shooting something big then I doubleup out doors as well. Again thanks for all your help guys. Juan

Over time it will to your hearing

I was referring more to doubling up with foam plugs and muffs. out side I just use one or the other as the sound doesn't reverberate like it does inside a building.... but even outside I still use some sort of protection, just not both. I also don't use muzzle breaks and will not shoot next to someone who does...:cuss:
